Have a look at the shots against
Goaltending isnt great but that’s not the problem
Systems are non existent and the D is terrible
And by D I mean the whole teams defensive structure
You would think they would have figured it out by now since they spend 80% of the game in their own zone giving up quality scoring chance after quality scoring chance

This has nothing to do with any team, but all teams in general. If you pick the BEST of what you have show up and you do well at the jump in September/October you are experiencing "LUCK". LUCK because the players are raw and fresh working together for the first time and pumped. However, now it is up to the coaches to explore matches in talent level for line partners. Left handed vs right-handed shots on lines. Rushing D vs stay at home D. Make the adjustments by paying attention to tendencies of each player. A few months of playing together and toggling the lines, will help to determine what types of players work well together.

Do you:
1. Balance the lines?
2. Have a throw away line?
3. Have an energizing line?
4. Have a defensive/offensive minded line?
5. Do you as coaches listen to Mommy and Daddy saying that "their boy" is the BEST and should be played on all special teams and end of game opportunities?
6. Are there repercussions for defiantly ignoring team structure and tactics to play selfishly?
7. Are you coaching UP to your most talented players, bc if not, you are creating a culture of loss.
8. Fairness at the REP level is NOT what happens at the JR level.
9. Sometimes playing it as fair as possible, creates an implosion amongst the "team" (those that know/understand that there should be pk/pp teams), in order to compete, BUT this does not fall on the coach bc he/she is being fair. They let the team dynamics make the calls amongst themselves. THAT is a recipe for disaster! Make a decision! You cannot please everyone.
10. AVOID parent emails /texts and have all communication come through the manager so as to have a mediator to keep personal conflicts (daddy speaking for son), to mitigate any interference.
11. If a the year continues and the losses pile up, it is the coach that is looked upon for being unable to control the above mentioned points and put a program in place to manage the outside noise that is affecting the ability to "coach".

In the end, what I am referring to is: as the season progresses, parents are now looking to you as to why losses are frequent? We all know "why and "how" this happens. You have to be able to manage "rose coloured glass" parents and this will be likely one of the "most" difficult pieces in your repertoire of being a "good coach" and remembered for your ability to "manage the people"!
