The G should consider going with a U18 double cohort for AA like they do AAA.
Are you stupid? That would never happen as it’s lost revenue for the G and the orgs that still have AA teams in both age groups.
How would the G or associations lose money? If kids stop playing hockey altogether due to a lack of teams in AA, then you lose money. If a kid drops to A or goes up to AAA, you still have the money. The G is experiencing a sharp drop (has been since pandemic) in U17/U18 AA players, to the point where you barely have enough for a robust combined east/west division. Maybe if you combine the cohort you salvage a few teams. It's the same principal that AAA is using and girls hockey, so it's hardly 'stupid'. High school hockey has double cohorts too. It's a suggestion borne out of need.
