Guest wrote: Sun Apr 23, 2023 9:54 am Yesterday when the draft ended it was one of the best days of the year.

I am sure there are lots of teams with dont know how to skate Daddies and dont know offisde Mommies who went on and on over the last 8 yrs about how good their kid is and that their current team is brutal and their kid is going to the promised land in Bantam or M Midget to be seen. How they worried about what spring team they played on, how they would tell you about all the ELITE spring tournaments they attended to be seen and drop the names of the truly talented their kid passed the puck to. Now the joy looks for to the look of sheer and utter disappointment come the fall when Midget tryouts kick off.

To those who were annoyed I raise my glass to you...to those Daddies and Mommies I say

The funny thing is, during all of those elite tournaments and AAA practices, their kids were still in the mix. Something I doubt your
Kid was ever in. They don’t scout AA bud.
Move on Adolf

Don’t blame other people for your weak, inferior sperm and substandard parenting bud. Help your kid with his resume, he’s gonna need it.
Yet you’re still here. You Superior species. Thanks for the tip!
(That’s what your wife calls you, apparently).
Ok, I’ve had my fill of mouthbreather time. Good luck!

At least you acknowledged who the better man was ;)
Actually, that's awesome cumback. Kudos.

maybe the draft should be 3 rounds. the issue is... big billy who is 6.2 cant skate and got drafted 200 and something will get more opportunities then player X who didn't get selected. at the end of the day you put your foot in the door... careful you don't loose your toes. for those players who didn't get drafted and still want it..... you can still get it. work hard

GTHL with the highest number of kids playing hockey and the most opportunities to train, be seen and get scouted have roughly an equal amount of picks as the OMHA whom people trash.
OMHA seems like the a solid place to play, and maybe some better opportunities to play.
Outside of the super elite players in the G, Seems like the development happens more on the outside.
Population of Ontario is 15 mil.
Population of GTA is 7 mil
Population of OMHA cities is roughly 4 mil

And given the OMHA kids playing in the G

You might say that 20 kids in the first 3 rounds OMHA is really good. And maybe it’s better being a big dog on an average team than just another player on a top tier team.
Spots are bought
Buddies have kids drafted
Scouts draft their own kids

Let’s be real. Some kids earned it. But I have never seen a draft with so many kids not called who deserve to be called. It was a disgrace. Hopefully talent over money prevails.
With all the investigations going on do you really think a team would accept money right now?
Here is the reality.

If you weren’t drafter in the first 3 rounds you are just another player. Most of these kids are going to U18 or GoJHL
Drafted or not, there is zero difference.
What will matter is who keeps training and working to get better and who doesn’t.
Yes. Lots of weird picks and a lot of kids who should have been picked.
If you’re not good enough to play in the O this coming year or close to it, it is irrelevant where you were picked and if you were picked.
This is so true. The kids that know they should have been drafted pick themselves up, dust themselves off and get working. Those are the ones to watch in two or three years.

Any surprises or things that made you shake your head in the first round?

For me a goalie going 7th (even when it was the best one) was bit of a shock especially since they have a pretty good 06.

And the first 5 being being guessed (known) days in advance.

Biggest shock was the Storm picking the '07 GG Captain in the 14th round. Was slated to go in 4-7th round.

They said he’s the best goalie prospect in 10 years, maybe if both there goalies pan out, they will trade 1.

Guelph probably took money from Guelph 07 captain. Everyone was well aware they also took a cash payment from there 10th round pick as well.

Doesn’t take Sherlock Holmes to know there were some likely back room deals all over the draft.
