It can’t be Newmarket, they are too big I would think. Same with Stouffville.. only merge that I think makes sense is RH. But before all that.. the OMHA needs to step in, and start a thorough investigation. Talk to the parents and compliment a list of complaints. This corrupt association cannot continue to exist in its current state.

But really, what are parents/kids supposed to do here. You heard all the nonsense we deal with , in the OHF forum that spawned this topic. Horror stories of power tripping, controlling, manipulative coaches. Bullying and otherwise completely useless president, and exec members. coach selection that seems to be more of a popularity contest instead of selecting the best qualified. So.. i ask again, what do we do? Complain to the OMHA? didn't seem to yield any results. Do what our U18/U17 parents did, and just decide as a collective to not register/show up?

Where are all the great hockey minds out there? Where are the HC members that peruse this forum??

It's a tough situation and small numbers. It's a rep problem, with a total enrollment of about 350 kids (in rep), (imo) about 80% of the parents would support having the board resign/or major overhall addressing all of the issues you have outlined.

Your best bet would be having someone with the acumen and interest approach the appropriate individuals at the OMHA and OHF and propose that the current governance model (re-drafted about 10 years ago) has left families in a situation where their options disproportionately impaired compared to the surrounding/alternative centers which is negatively affecting their children/members.

All associations are independent legal entities that are bound by individual by-laws and NFP rules that are supposed to benefit the children/members, once that is in place they are granted to right to have a franchise/association within the OMHA.

Getting ahold of the independent coach evaluations vs applicants for coaching positions (and results) OR comparing the financial statements vs. comparable associations would be a good start to factually prove they are operating outside of the interests of the OHF/OMHA members/children.

I think the first problem here, is that the parents are too scared to act. It all gets back to the problem coaches, and most parents are afraid of the negative impact it will have on the children. That being said, I have spoken to a few parents, who seem to want to rally together and deal with this.
So, here comes the process of obtaining coaches review, which are skewed. We all know that one particular coach sits on the board, and has been shown coaches reviews in the past from certain parents who he then has ostracized from the association. That being said, how would one obtain the coaches reviews? ask the association?

I can only imagine what MM would do if he saw this thread/site.... didn't he pull parents into a heated pre-season coaches/parents meeting because he saw them talking to a set of parents at try outs and thought they were all talking about him??

The OHF or OMHA would have to request. A group of disgruntled parents are not the appropriate intermediaries. My guess is that all of the forms will have been misplaced (deleted) within minutes of request, or reading of this post. Even then, they are all digital forms so don't put the new guard above deleting the salacious ones and only being able to find the glowing reviews written by the coaches wife.

I have seen this work in another sport, where they have a mandatory town hall with parents and they do interviews privately with a 3rd party to protect identities.

If would be way better if they selected coach based on popularity. Sadly they choose coaches just to make a statement: f**k you, parents!
