Parents who focus on the flaws in their kids coach end up poisoning their kids perception of the coach, through their incessant complaining. In the end, they become the root cause of their negative experience. These parents are unknowingly teaching their kids to blame and fostering a "victim" mindset in their kids.

Parents who help their kid navigate the downsides of the situation are teaching them how to cope with adversity. And though the kid may not realize it, his positive attitude will lead to problem solving and positive life experiences down the road.
Yes problem, idiot, naive and dumb parents are a HUGE problem, but they are equally matched by crap coaching. Coaches do not want accountability, or subject to any oversight. In fact coaches want to be backed by associations that close borders, essentially forcing parents who want to have their kid play hockey, into one option. This allows the poisonous atmosphere, brutal coaching, and poor treatment of players and parents to continue.

BOTH groups are equally to blame for the sh!t minor hockey we find ourselves in.
If everywhere you go it smells like shit, check your shoes…it’s probably you.

Don't blame it all on the coach
Most coaches are piss poor communicators, in love with the game, can't teach it and maybe had a sniff playing Jr. C somewhere and now consider themselves "hockey guys" with "hockey knowledge", able to teach and coach kids. LOL Laughable, guys that dig ditches are there for a reason. People who teach and coach in your school system are at least educated. Not perfect system either but just outlining the difference. Think about how your hockey coaches treat players vs how teachers treat your kids!

I agree that current team coaches are not nearly at the level they need to be, specifically at the higher ends of AAA and AA. O also think that coaching needs to follow a curriculum style approach to properly plan and achieving term results.

That being said teaching these days has dropped significantly as well. My kid's teachers are brutal. Many use on-line courses and tell the kids to ask them questions if they get stuck. Teacher came rigjt out and told the class this at the beginning of the semester.

Just as coaches are stuck in the 80's, so are parts of teaching. Example, teaching English wirh Shakespeare. Nobody speaks that way, the words are very different, the grammar is different, and frankly the themes and stories aren't interesting to kids these days. I was taught this in the 80's it was old, out of date and sucked then, but they still use the same curriculum.

Rhey even teach Shakespeare to kids in French speaking communities like mine. Good luck getting these kids to understand and want to learn and improve their English.

All that to be said, teaching is a good comparison in theory, but has a lot to be desired.

Agreed. I wish hockey had the foresight to actually approach coaching as a curriculum based endeavor. Teaching is supposed to have this approach, but it's old, has embraced "new math" and "self evaluations" and lost it's course on effective teaching.

Very few, they get paid to put up with parent BS. Most hockey coaches don't.

Typical meat head response to take no accountability .
Seems you don't want to take accountability for the shit on your shoes.
