How much training for AAA?
How much training for AAA?
Hello Fellow Hockey Parents,
My son is one of the top players in his MD-1 team at U8 and I was wondering how much training is required to stay at top level - Elite/AAA? Our goal as a family is to play top tier hockey in the G for top 3-4 teams once he hits U10. I have seen some parents having their kid on ice 1 hour every morning for private lesson ( so 6-7 hours per week) and then do everything else with the team in the evening.
From those who have older kids playing hockey successfully, how many hours per week did you train other than team training?
Thanks

Re: How much training for AAA?
If your child is naturally athletic, you do not need to train every morning. My son is in the G and is a top player. He did team skates and about 2 days per week for 1.5 hours each skate with good trainers. I believe it is quality over quantity.
Re: How much training for AAA?
Does your kid beg you to get more ice? Or do you have to push them? If it's the latter, you risk burning him out. Even if he does push, I'd focus on quality over quantity (as the previous poster mentioned). It seems excessive/crazy at first, but 1 private/small group session of elite training is better than 3-4 just random skills sessions in a big group. You will actually save money in the end and see way better results.redhat92 wrote: ↑Mon Sep 25, 2023 9:58 am Hello Fellow Hockey Parents,

I'd say one or 2 (max) real quality sessions on the side and stick with the team does for the rest. Make sure he gets 2 days OFF a week ideally (even if he wants to play all the time).

Just say what you mean "I've already picked out his suit for the draft, where he will thank me, his dad, when he's picked #1 overall, so how do I ruin the rest of his childhood most effectively to make that happen"

What does race have to do with this? If you must know, I am not an immigrant with bags of money hiding in the basement.Guest wrote: ↑Mon Sep 25, 2023 2:02 pmredhat92 wrote: ↑Mon Sep 25, 2023 9:58 am Hello Fellow Hockey Parents,

Asian kids are already born ready to comply and work at everything like it's sweat shop.redhat92 wrote: ↑Mon Sep 25, 2023 2:20 pmWhat does race have to do with this? If your not Asian. You probably don't want your kid on the ice every day if the week, twice a day.
Re: How much training for AAA?
Keep him in his home centre, where he will have lions share of minutes / special teams, until MB. More time on the ice + more time with the puck on his stick will be better for him, compared to navigating the politics of being a top 6F 4D on a top 3 team for 7 years. Import spots are limited and if your kid is one of them, no coach will think twice about cutting him to bring in some stud who he thinks might have a little more potential that your kid.redhat92 wrote: ↑Mon Sep 25, 2023 9:58 am Hello Fellow Hockey Parents,

My kids played in the G because we live there...and from my experience, most of the top players from the OMHA started showing up in MB. They were coming from all the surrounding centres and as far as Milton, Hamilton, Caimbridge, Sudbury, The Soo, North Bay.

Re: How much training for AAA?
The reality that there is a possibility of an undersized champion badminton player might actually have higher compete and more grit than your kid troubles you, doesn't it.Guest wrote: ↑Tue Sep 26, 2023 12:18 amWhen contact starts only 10% will move on the rest will play AAA BadmintonGuest wrote: ↑Mon Sep 25, 2023 5:25 pmAsian kids are already born ready to comply and work at everything like it's sweat shop.redhat92 wrote: ↑Mon Sep 25, 2023 2:20 pmWhat does race have to do with this?
