Any leads on how the Northern Saints are looking this year? Will they be any good or losing their best players?
Losing their best players I’ve heard
playing up a year AAA? That’s always a risk for some teams. In the city there’s a number of Saints, Aces, Stars and NYHL kids looking for a better environment too. KSL is good, but overall the lack of focus on development is sad for kids now. The amount of 2 line teams is not such a good thing imo.
Some are trying out for the cobras
absolutely no one is leaving a team they are on now to play for the cobras in Barrie. The org is garbage. Once the 2016s age out next year they are done. They are riding off of a small group of kids who they had during the early stages of spring / tournament teams. There is no depth in the organization, 2017s were garbage this year, and the Barrie Colts is still a strong organization that continues to not be impacted by KSL at all.

Throw in the new teams in the area (north and south of Barrie) and it will make them even worse.

get out of here.
The 2016 cobras have improved all year and the 2015s were also quite strong. The Cobras run a strong development program and the players improved a lot. Have not personally seen the Colts MD team but I’m guessing they are likely a level below KSL tier 1 just as is the case everywhere else.
We personally have had no issues with the Org. Plus for us full ice was an attractive option .

What are the alternatives to Klevr? Not entirely sure we want to risk the potential hockey Canada sanctions but this is also coming from a place of being relatively new to the hockey world. Our local Klevr team is fairly disorganized which is also a deterrent because we can’t do many last minute practice and exhibition games.

2015 Cobras and 2016 T1 Cobras were both part of the "purple cobras" during the time of spring / tournament teams before KSL existed. So kids stayed where they were and rode with them for the season.

2015 kids are no longer eligible for KSL - they are gone.
2016T1 kids are going to complete their last year

2016 T2 Stunk last year
2017s stunk last year

Their registration numbers are low overall. The coaching staff is made fun of, and the org itself is made fun of all the time.

the Barrie Colts are one of, if not THEE strongest OMHA team from a numbers and registration perspective. They get more kids, and have more loyalty than almost every other team.

In addition to that, there is also two new teams in the surrounding area for KSL. SGB Riptide and the Muskoka North Stars - both of which are hiring strong coaching names. There is also multiple kids who drove up from the Newmarket / Bradford area that have registered for Northern Saints tryouts.

the team is THEE most likely to fold out of all KSL teams. They are not good. They do shady things like combine their T1 and T2 rosters for important games. Stay away from these guys, they are awful.

There are no sanctions, that would be illegal. Apparently there is no way to even stop kids from playing OHF and Klevr at the same time. I have heard they will go full ice for U8/U9 MD next year but who knows? I just found it stupid that U8 players in Houseleague (combined with U9) play full ice for half a year but U8 MD is half ice only. I would love to hear someone at the OMHA or OHF explain how that makes sense… Klevr will continue to grow until they start giving people what they want instead of telling them what is best for their kids.

Yes - he was announced as a Raiders coach on IG but I see that post has since been taken down.

Sounds like lots of teams are expanding so good coaches must be in high demand.

This was for U8 - Luciano was previously announced as a coach for the Raiders then Saints U8 teams.

There will be 3 U9 Raiders teams according to their website post from Feb 7. Wouldn’t it be natural to assume Omasta would be the head coach of the team with the DD red players?
