Anyone can get their coaching certificate. Guys who played in the O or higher, great, but can they teach? Good coaching is very rare. Most of these guys are there to secure their kid a spot on the team. Then you have the jerkoffs who are there to try and guarantee their kid ice time, PP time, etc. London has a decent enough population, but the AAA teams are never able to compete with top teams. Sometimes it's because of a weak age group, but most of the time it's because the coaches are just bad. I really could not care less if you played in the O. If you don't know how to teach systems, or if you only do flow drills that have no relevance, you suck and are killing development.Guest wrote: ↑Mon Nov 11, 2024 9:19 pmDoes the coach have proven credentials? I have yet to see really good practices where the coaches have designed drills to teach a strong system (and then continue teaching throughout the year and not just a one-off before a tournament!!!).
Flow drills seem to make these coaches feel all warm and fuzzy inside - do they really think they're doing a good job? Maybe they think the parents will be impressed. The parents who know the game will easily see that these types of drills are a total waste of time and that the kids are not learning a bloody thing.
Then the worst part is they rinse and repeat all season and NOTHING is being taught! At U14 they have to focus on strategy and systems, not standing at the boards doing some stupid flow drill that means nothing and never happens in games.

Re: LJK 2 Tier AA
U14 at all levels is terrible
U15 is good at AAA and tier 1 AA
U16 is good at AAA
No idea on the younger age groups, but generally, from what I have observed, it's the same old - set up drill and blow whistle. That is considered coaching. No teaching happening whatsoever. Any idiot could set up cones and run drills. That shit ain't coaching. It's just wasting everyone's time and the parents' money. Oh, but they volunteer to "coach"...I rather they didn't and we paid guys to do a proper job.

Agree on those, I have also heard good things on U10 AAA and U13 AA tier 1.Guest wrote: ↑Thu Nov 21, 2024 1:56 pm U14 at all levels is terrible

Both of these LJK threads seem like bitter, jealous AAA cuts. Posting anonymously
Re: LJK 2 Tier AA
Could be some that are bitter but the reality is the coaching is very weak in London.
And the majority of coaches are parents. At AAA from minor peewee on they should have paid coaches who know what the hell they're doing. U12 parent. U13 parent. U14 parent. U15 non parent. U16 non parent. If parents had a choice to pay a little extra but they get a good non parent (and non biased) coach, I think they'd do it.
Why do you think the G is so far ahead? It's coaching, plain and simple.
The other issue with London is the skills coaches we have are trash. Again, no coaching. Set up drills and stand back and watch. They're all charlatans.

The G pulls players from 3-4 hours away, pays gas money, schooling, etc. That’s why they are better, it’s not rocket science.Guest wrote: ↑Thu Nov 21, 2024 4:25 pm Could be some that are bitter but the reality is the coaching is very weak in London.
