NRP changes 2025/26

Post by Guest »

Rumours or some truth?

Word around town is that the OMHA may reverse previous NRP rules(phasing out for 2014 kids when they hit U12) and increase up to 5 NRPS by the 2025/26 season.

Curious if anyone else is hearing this and what the reasoning would be? We are in a B centre in Niagara and this decision would likely decimate the rep levels in the smaller centres(Pelham, NOTL, Fort Erie and Port Colborne). Amalgamation for a couple of these centres would be the only solution if this NRP change actually happens.

Would love some insight on this one...

Is this the OMHA in a sense "forcing" smaller centres to amalgamate at the rep level?

It is happening in our neck of the woods. Quinte West trying to merge with Stirling/Brighton and move up to AA. Sucks that if strong kids from small centres miss out on AAA they are stuck in a D loop and score 70 goals. Open it up and before U12!

OMHA is finding ways for centres to amalgamate, the problem is it has been taking WAY to long, this is probably year 5 or 6 of this master snail plan. Get to it already, rip the bandaid and get it done. OMHA is actively advising small centres to amalgamate or be left behind. It's time. Hockey should be AAA/AA/A regionally and then HL/LL (more locally) whatever you want to call it. Gone is this BB/B/CC/C/D/DD crap. OH and maybe Alliance can take their MD crap too.

I'm the OP and 100% FOR amalgamation, just curious if the anyone knows if the NRP increase is actually happening or not. I also hear the other open borders "rumour" as well. either way I can see why the OMHA would more or less force it, unfortnetley some of these smaller centres don't want to lose their name at the rep level. Maybe they will finally wake up when they see they cant field a rep team because kids just leave for greener pastures

I have heard the open borders chatter. Tryouts and team selections will be a mess but probably better in the long run. Let the kids play where they should play, and then move teams up or down if they are too strong or too weak for the division they are in. Much better way to do things…

Last year they attempt to phase it out at the AGM and it got voted down. Not sure about raising the NRPs, they have amalgamated many of the centres around London leaving our B centre decimated, but our executive still want to put out watered down products that have losing seasons. We have lost all our talent to A centres around us. Alliance seems to have their stuff together around us though.

OMHA in London area is a disaster. Lambeth should fold, but holes kids hostage. Strathroy and St No Names let kids play up multiple age groups when they’re mediocre, which decimates younger age groups, and then they wonder why there programs are weak and dissolving. Everyone wants to go to mount bridges a small center with the best coaches but they wont let anyone in. There needs to be a formula in place to make the playfield even.

Agreed, as a AA Centre, our second entry goes into A. Our best A teams have losing records and there are some that win no games in a 21-30 game schedule. But no, they are not allowed to go into the B division because we are a AA centre and our second entry has to be A. Such a joke. There may be a lot of hate on KV and Klevr but the teams started by choosing a division and then after the first tournament they got moved around. They ended up adding a bunch of divisions so that all of the teams played against teams close to their level. OMHA takes a hard line and refuses to use common sense, it is the kids that suffer.

That sucks to hear about the A teams, those teams should be able to play B or whatever, you know girls do have something smart with the no boundaries and pick your division
