NYHL or CDS? Who are the best clubs
NYHL or CDS? Who are the best clubs
Tried to search a lot for info on NYHL vs CDS for U7-U9.
Why are these clubs separate and which league is better? What are the top GTHL feeder teams and how's that all work?
Sorry I'm a noob.

The strongest teams are usually the following (in no particular order):Guest wrote: ↑Tue Jan 24, 2023 4:45 pm Tried to search a lot for info on NYHL vs CDS for U7-U9.

CDS West: GB, HV, WM
CDS East: LF, SIR, NT
Tier 1 NYHL
AAA G teams feed off a mix of both NYHL and CDS. Coaching quality and player strength coming out of both leagues is strong. The teams above will feed the majority of the GTHL AAA players in U10.
CDS formed as an alternative to the NYHL to offer more in-game ice time for kids due to a 2 line structure, is cheaper for parents, and has more convenient (local) locations for games.
Re: NYHL or CDS? Who are the best clubs
Thanks for this detailed response. Any other Intel on CDS East or NYHL clubs in that North York area that are good? I suppose these teams are filled with kids that did the L2P at these clubs?Guest wrote: ↑Tue Jan 24, 2023 5:25 pmThe strongest teams are usually the following (in no particular order):Guest wrote: ↑Tue Jan 24, 2023 4:45 pm Tried to search a lot for info on NYHL vs CDS for U7-U9.

Re: NYHL or CDS? Who are the best clubs
What is CDS? Ive never heard of it until now. Although I did notice Nyhl had barley any teams anymore at younger ages wondering how they’d fill AAA teams come u10. So what is CDS why is it better and why did all the teams move there?
Re: NYHL or CDS? Who are the best clubs
Try watching some games of teams near you to see what level your child would fit in the best at. Pay attention to how the coaches are with the bench and listen to what the parents in the stands are like. The schedules are available online. You can then reach out to the coaches of teams you are interested in joining to see how much roster space they have.Guest wrote: ↑Tue Jan 24, 2023 5:36 pmThanks for this detailed response. Re: NYHL or CDS? Who are the best clubs
CDS (competitive development stream) was formed when hockey canada mandated half ice hockey for starting with the 2018-19 season for minor novice (2011s) and below (2010 novice were grandfathered a year). The first teams to join were Leaside, North york kniights, North Toronto, Forest Hill. Then Ice raiders and maybe a few others. The West also formed a "CDS" with George Bell, Humber Valley, etc.
As for what league is better, as of today the top league is still T1 in the NYHL, with assembled teams housed at Duffield and Etobicoke. There used to be 10-12 teams, now only 6 left. They will feed to whatever AAA team the coach is assigned to, theres no direct link. CDS teams are more equivalent to T2 and more community based, not assembled. It makes the transition to AAA for those teams much more complicated.
Basically pre GTHL, the leagues are now fragmented and its a mess.
