Funny enough I heard the same news on the rink from other dads. It would be a great move since Oakville kids play in GTHL anyway..

Is there much changeover or movement amongst the rosters of the A/AA/AAA teams at Oakville Rangers (depending on kids developing at different times & different rates), or do the teams usually remain the same year after year? Are tryouts actually tryouts, or are the teams typically pre-selected? (Honest question & just wondering what to expect for my son going from 10yo and into his teenage years).

There’s no chance. Not a single Oakville kid is a relevant player in the GTHL and the team would go from an OMHA contender to a perpetual mid pack pushover. Better to stay where we are and compete.

I’d say there’s usually 2-3 changes starting at AAA (kids going to the G… like with 2010 last year, top F, D and G left for MS)

When are this years AAA coaches being posted? Will give you an idea of how much change is coming… also, look at current standing to give you an idea

Why do kids leave Oakville and join teams like MS? Don’t kids get drafted to OHL from Oakville or is it necessary to move to G ?

Free rides mostly. Why pay for hockey when you can get paid to play.

Other than that the only reasons I've ever seen is you don't have to make the drives to GBH, STA and NN or they just want to say "My boy plays in the G" against top teams

With the lack of talent coming out of Oakville the past few years I seriously doubt anyone’s getting a free ride. Not since the Misa days anyway. It’s a wasteland here now.

Because the coaching here in Oakville at certain age groups is equal in quality to a volunteer dad running a house league select team. Age groups like 08/09/11/12 have solid benches.......you fill n the blanks. The 3 Oakville kids on the Sens left because it was hands down the best thing to do for their development. Same as the dozen other boys who have left over the last few years.
