Oakville Rangers vs GTHL for U8/U9

Post by redhat82 »

looking to decide between Oakville vs GTHL for 2016 elite kid who can play U8 and U9 rep with target to play AAA at U10 down the line. Is it better to stay with Oakville Rangers or play in GTHL to target clubs Iike Marlboros?

Also, any thoughts on playing up are welcome

There's no one size fits all. Ultimately, hockey at that age has to be fun above all else. If he's having fun in Oakville, and you're fine there, stay there. You'll need a release to play in the G at u10. So down the line, you gotta have a plan there or you'll be forced to come back.

Playing up wouldn't be terrible. The NYHL for 2015s is taking a big hit with most of their studs playing up or going Klevr. It will likely be a great league to develop for mid tier 2015s and higher end 2016s.

At that age staying in Oakville is fine. The Klevr league didn’t end up with nearly the talent it was hoping for and is already struggling, so you’ll want to steer clear of that.

The NYHL has the smoothest path to the big AAA clubs like Marlboros and JRC, but a lot will happen and change over the next 2 years for your child so I’d suggest waiting to see how your child’s development goes and reassess next summer. Good luck

KLVR is a great option and not struggling. Quite the opposite. Would be an option for sure. Playing NYHL a means nothing when tryouts come so don’t let anyone tell you you’ll have a spot on their U10 team. They’ll take the best kids they can. It’s the G. Most are all liars.

For us on getting as many reps and as much ice time as you can. Obviously have your child play with comparable kids. Building confidence and getting time on the ice is more important than playing up. Generally speaking it’s all parent ego.

Smoothest path to the G is train the crap out of your kid and when they are U10 age, if they’re good enough, people will notice and come calling. Play a summer tournament or two if you want to know where they stand.

NYHL is terrible culturally and from a development perspective. It’s not great hockey by any means. Just kids chasing the puck and out of position. I mean unless you play on the top team and then you’re just running through everyone else so what the point.

I would potentially stay in your centre and play up or play KLEVR.
ORHL is also a decent option because it’s just 2015 group and it’s full ice. Mix of talent. Definitely don’t discount it.

You sound like somebody who’s kid was cut from one (or likely a few) NYHL teams and it’s left you bitter and jealous. Your an outcast left scraping by in a second rate league that’s not even sanctioned by Hockey Canada like Klevr or the ORHL.
What a joke.

What a joke.

Just look at the tournament results this spring. Pro Hockey and Bulldogs teams loaded with NYHL kids have dominated the tournaments at the 2016, 2015 and 2014 age groups, while Klevr teams haven’t won a damn thing and got dominated on a weekly basis. And Klevr costs twice the money for some inexplicably reason.

Save your hard earned money and steer clear of garbage hockey.

Lol.

Actually. One of my kids played Brick. Second will also make the Brick. Both doing very well. I’m not focused on the dumb shit. Post what you will. Klevr is a great option. Hate all you want.

If that was true you wouldn’t have such an ignorant and I informed opinion. Nice try bud, but you were exposed by your own stupid comment.

From personal experience, I suggest leaving Oakville. In Oakville you will be at the mercy of the politics with no options. Lots of dad coaches and the self interest and boys club that comes with it. There's a reason why the Oakville parent's and players are never smiling.

I disagree. Stay in Oakville. You are going to have to stay there in the end anyway (if the kid is any good).

Might as well get in now, find the dress code for the country club and start smoozing now. Make sure you install a pool if you don't have one, invite all the team over to swim as often as possible.
Even better if you can host the team parents party, or sponsor it @ The Landing.

You're in Oakville, so from a hockey view you are stuck in Oakville. It is not a bad thing if your kiddo turns out to be decent as time goes on, Oakville ices some pretty good teams.
