OMHA Dissolved Teams
OMHA Dissolved Teams
How many teams have been dissolved this year within the OMHA and how many more are being planned for next year? Durham alone has Oshawa, Clarington, Ajax and Whitby. They should probably reduce to two. Do you feel this will be good for OMHA? Richmond Hill lost the coyotes last year and so the kids had to go to the Waxers but even looking at u10 Waxers they finished near the bottom.
Re: OMHA Dissolved Teams
Dissolving teams doesn’t guarantee better. Some families won’t travel, especially at early ages, politics play into selections and so on. Still leaves kids playing at wrong level (higher or lower). Clarington and Oshawa have already merged for AAA for this coming hockey season and there are plans for others.Guest wrote: ↑Sun Mar 31, 2024 12:29 pm How many teams have been dissolved this year within the OMHA and how many more are being planned for next year? They need to focus on training and holding associations accountable for their development rather than just reducing teams. The OMHA has way better development (although that is diminishing) than the G, yet they seem to want to go to the G model.
Re: OMHA Dissolved Teams
Fewer teams will make it more competitive and that should be the goal. They also need to focus on how to retain kids. There are a very large group of of kids from OMHA zones who continue to leave for the G.

How does OMHA have better development compared to the G?Guest wrote: ↑Sun Mar 31, 2024 12:39 pmDissolving teams doesn’t guarantee better. Re: OMHA Dissolved Teams
To start, the model of AP players is better in the OMHA. For AAA, the G only AP’s from the year below AAA and removes affiliation with their AA centres. While the G attracts top end talent, their model is all about winning at the early ages. Kids should not be sitting shifts with the exception of disciplinary reasons and maybe last few minutes of games until they are much older. I have seen some kids sit for almost whole games (at 8 and 9 years old) just because they weren’t as good as some other teammates. That is not development. While the OMHA does this at times too, it is far less than the G. The G also has these super teams, which is usually the top 4 and destroy the others. These games do not benefit the top or bottom teams.Guest wrote: ↑Sun Mar 31, 2024 1:55 pmHow does OMHA have better development compared to the G?Guest wrote: ↑Sun Mar 31, 2024 12:39 pmDissolving teams doesn’t guarantee better. Re: OMHA Dissolved Teams
The classic anecdotal response. Using metrics unmeasurable to prove your point. Show me research of a sample size of teams from both leagues and avg ice time distribution by player by age groups, instead of what "you have seen". This is called motivated perception, instead provide some data and facts instead of your opinions and feelings... Not much value you provided with the above gibberish.Guest wrote: ↑Sun Mar 31, 2024 7:53 pmTo start, the model of AP players is better in the OMHA. Re: OMHA Dissolved Teams
Is it true that OMHA teams won't allow players to attend development programs outside of their organization?
Re: OMHA Dissolved Teams
Really depends on the coach… BUT also age dependent… for example, U14+ doesn’t need a release to go to the G but would need a permission to skate if a LOR team to LOR teamGuest wrote: ↑Sun Mar 31, 2024 8:18 pm Is it true that OMHA teams won't allow players to attend development programs outside of their organization?

Should have kept the associations but left the borders open.Guest wrote: ↑Sun Mar 31, 2024 1:28 pm Fewer teams will make it more competitive and that should be the goal. Re: OMHA Dissolved Teams
But this would have still resulted in poor competition with a lot of kids not AAA level but making the team due to roster spots having to be filled. The dissolving of some teams was a good start but they need to reduce teams further.Guest wrote: ↑Mon Apr 01, 2024 8:04 amShould have kept the associations but left the borders open.Guest wrote: ↑Sun Mar 31, 2024 1:28 pm Fewer teams will make it more competitive and that should be the goal.
