Organizations need to get smarter about who the select to coach their teams. A lot of the picks are friends of a board member and not the best candidate. You know the coaches who continually develop kids, keep them and protect them from the crazy’s

Curious about the difference also. Live in Burloak (east Burlington, basically Oakville ) and my will be AA or AAA wth the eagles. I hear so many horror stories of the omha driving schedule for AA and AAA. We would have less driving if we were in the G from the looks of it. For AA would the Gthl still be a better league than omha? Is the driving (for where we live) better in the G? For AAA I have a good understanding already, I feel. Just not sure what route to go (I know I need a release for the G or have to get creative btw).

All it takes is for the best kids to be "loyal" to an organization and WANT to play where they are. That's it. If the best players stay, no one else has a reason to find somewhere better to play.

But, like the two other posters alluded to, its a two way street. They need to feel like they are getting the best coaching and feel like its a stable environment. If they don't - they flee to the G.

I will say this: a lot of these kids were the same kids willing to take a chance on KSL - so their parents and the kids are the type of people to "buck a trend" and this might play into OMHAs favour. Parents who are willing to take a chance on what the "typical" route once was might be willing to do that at 12, 13, 14...

How do you figure on the driving part? Assume you will practice 3 times a week close to your house in the OMHA vs. having to travel 3x for practice. Depending on what team you play for all of your home games are likely going to be on a weeknight or pretty far (ie. Don Mills is Sundays but about as far as you can go east). If you are in Burlington your furthest OMHA trip is to Niagara, everything else is pretty close.

Ladies and gentlemen, at the end of the day people chase jerseys and wins. If you find a good coach who runs good practices, you have your own off ice development/trainers, your kid will benefit, win or lose, G or O. All this running around, kissing coaches asses is for nothing and never good for your kid.

For AA there's Hespeler, Caledon, garden city, Glancaster, guelph. For Aaa there's buffalo, owen sound, Brampton.

Furthest team from a Mississauga G team is Vaughn.

I guess both will add alot of km's.

How do the leagues compare skill wise?

The OMHA driving burden is nirvana compared to navigating GTA traffic - remember it’s games AND practises.
Quality: You have a lot of low Hockey IQ & low skilled coaches in the G so no guarantee of excellent development. Check how high they played. Some are linked to hockey schools that you HAVE to enrol Junior into. Lol.
Cost: Guaranteed to pay thousand$ way more than OMHA - usually for no benefit - Exceeds way more than your OMHA gas money.
Draft: Greater percentage of players drafted from outside G.
My take: Find a local coach who knows the game, has great track record, knows respect, and doesn’t look easily bought.
GTHL Prospects & All-Star games - don’t expect results-reward - all kids of deals and nepotism and hockey school support in the selection process. OMHA team prospect events better this G travesty.
AAA quality - Equal share of weak teams. Don’t drink the kool-aid.

Most people are of the opinion that the G has better coaches and are paid more. But higher level of playing does not always translate to better coaching.

The G is about choice. You pay for it, but having the option to go to whichever club you want is worth it IMO.

The G is a recruitment league.
The hockey world labels it a “cesspool” …with its mega dose of corruption, nepotism and uniquely G-nasty politics.
Most G AAA coaches are not students of the game.
NEVER WERE AS PLAYERS EITHER.
