Everyone needs to relax, it's only been 3 games! Wait until half the season is done, then have this conversation

Well so far it is not to bad the U18 yes it does suck that there is no tournaments against kids your own age BUT there has been more than a few scouts so far. Also this has been cheaper for myself thann the AAA loop. So makes me wonder why AAA is so expensive as I get more ice time and practices than last year and pay league fees of $5400 for this year and $5800 last year.

I see no real down side to a 15 year old playing against 16 and 17 year olds as long as he is getting ice time and developing. And yes the scouts are out and watching. The two top scorers leading the league are both 07’s and several not far behind so I don’t think this league is hurting them come draft time.

Five of the top ten are 07's, and you're right this league isn't hurting them, nor the other top 20 kids. But what about the the other seventy-five 07's?

Well those other 75 kids would not likely develop any faster playing with their own age group. In fact I would argue that they may not even make their U16 AAA team and if they did they would see the same ice time there as they do in U18 which is realistically an easier league with so many teams.

You need more than 20 kids to make a league, so most of the 75 would make a U16AAA team. Your point on ice time definitely has some validity. But the fact that playing U18AAA isn't "hurting them come draft time" doesn't mean U18AAA is better for 15-year olds than U16AAA.

I think the tournament next weekend will show how good some U18AAA teams can be when the U16AAA have their own league. In some ways, better for both age groups.

I agree with you. Most of the players would make one of the local U16AAA teams however there really are only 4 maybe 5 teams that could be truly considered AAA and have some hope of competing with Toronto area teams. Don’t get me wrong, I wish my son were playing with a U16 team because the local U18 teams have a wide difference in skill talent by team. Mostly the 2007’s are the most skilled all things being equal. There are very skilled 2006’s of course but if they were top end skill they would be playing OHL or Jr A. But anyone who says this league hurts their draft chances is not informed. This league is very much scouted, I know for a fact.

I agree with most. Each year, the most skilled are usually the 15-yr olds as the top 16-yr are gone, and yes, the league is scouted. The top 20-25 or so will be drafted whether they play U16 or U18 or in Toronto.

It is the next 25 players that might benefit from the exposure that U16 can offer. HEO games solely against other U16 players rather than older and stronger U18 players may benefit a kid that is still growing into his game. Or, having a strong U16AAA tournament in southern Ontario may put a kid on a team's radar.
