Guest wrote: Mon Jun 05, 2023 3:15 pm Call it what you want, it's a travel team model-for "elite" players.

A private school model entails paying for school as well as hockey and most often living in a form. This is FAR from that, but continue to jump to the heights of exaggeration!!

HM(06), NA(07), ZL (04), KD(04), RS(03), just off the top of my head are all TOP players who went to the GTHL. just sayin!!

Are you saying that all the 07's who left this past year, either for the GTHL or other "non HEO" teams are ALL below average, insecure players!?!?!? Now there's some instant drama!! Way to put it out there!!

I do agree that the G doesn't care about development, just like any other league/team, but when you concentrate talent on top teams, playing day in and day out against top talent is in and of itself, development. But you can chose to deny that!

Still no "opinion" from you as to what the best way to approach developing ELITE level players here is! Not surprised.
Define development IYO

How about you try to contribute first?

How many teams do feel that HEO can ice?

How does this number ensure the proper player development for elite players here?

What are your standards for deciding how many AAA teams players there should be?

So the local players (07) that stayed and were drafted will do just fine. Most of all the players drafted in the first 4 or 5 rounds will play at least Jr A or OHL. Fact

Guest wrote: Sun Jun 04, 2023 7:01 pm One AAA team per year sounds about right. That way we can beat up on all other teams in the province, especially those dastardly GTA teams. Why look, the 08 Ottawa District team just finished spanking the GTA team in the finals of the 2023 Draftday All-Star Prospects Showcase! Then, for sure we'd have what, 17 1st round OHL picks from Ottawa, because development!
Also, everyone would get all the ice time and special teams assignments that they want. No possible way any crazy parents could lose it under this type of utopia
If you have the top 35 to 40 kids in each age group playing on only two teams. Things will never change. Not all players will play PP or PK. There will always be some top players and some players that are bottom 3/5.
The closer the gap between top 3 and bottom three is key.
Look at any NHL team. Your top 3 forwards eat up most of the ice time and the bottom 3 get enough ice time to give the top 3 players a rest.

So what you're saying is, the more teams you have the greater the gap, therefore the more a coach has to shorten his bench. If you concentrate the talent to "true " AAA caliber players, there will be much less need to do that. ALL players will be able to contribute and not have to work around AA talent players.
You should apply your "reasoning"to the NHL too. Send Gary an email that the NHL would be better if they contracted to 20 teams, so only "true NHL players" are involved, and we don't get the McDavids and MacKinnons "hindered" by players who should be in the AHL

Many of those won't even be able to make Jr. B teams! Where will they play? U18AAA next year will make them worse.

About as smart as limiting top tier hockey to about 5% of the player base each year because it is "better for the elites". Basically preparing them for the pros anyway no?

ah deflection, how about try and explain why you think there should be a "specific" amount of teams. Or just complain without any attempt at explanation or reasoning.

As for 5%, why not 5%? Everyone feels entitled to be considered the best, news flash, you earn it. What's the goal of the top tier of hockey? It's to develop elite players to reach their potential. There are several other levels of play for those not able to play this tier. You make it seem as if kids have no where to play! Get over yourself.

You should call the NHL and demand that there should be more than 0.001% of players making it pro.
