With that said some parents also need a wakeup call as to the commitment coaching is. You can leave the rink and go for coffee, wander around etc. For games and practices team coaches are usually tied up for 2 1/2 to 3 hours dedicated to your kid.
That gets lost on some.

I completely agree that coaches need to be self aware when their own child is on the team. It’s important to ensure decisions are fair and based on what’s best for the team. I also understand the commitment coaching requires, and parents should recognize that the coaches are dedicating a lot of time and effort.

However, it's essential that parents advocate for their child and ensure transparency, especially with finances and any additional expenses like camps. Coaches should never take advantage of families for personal gain, and it’s a good reminder to stay vigilant about what's happening on the team.

It’s all about fairness and doing what's best for the kids.

Yeah and when there are no coaches in the room and something happens the coaches get blamed. Don't coach period. Find another sport hockey woke Canada has ruined the sport.

Look up the method of anon complaints paradigm that the gthl uses along with hockey Canada and get the hell out. They don't care if you are innocent or guilty. Leave coaching now

Too bad....put yourself on a bench and the risks. The gthl only protects themselves.

I get there are risks, and yeah, unfortunately it can sometimes be completely unfounded.

I genuinely enjoy it. Part of me wishes I went to school to be a teacher. I look back at my childhood, which wasn't the greatest and my best role models were often coaches. I still think about some of those men from time to time, and the lessons they taught me.

So for me, it's probably my way of giving back.

In addition to that, I get to spend lots of time with my kid and be involved with his life - at least until he's old enough that I shouldn't be involved any more.

I'm sure I've made a parent or two upset, but I'd like to think I've done far more positive than perceived "negative"

O and O were terrible coaches a few years ago, benched kids and played his own fat kid who couldn’t skate, stuck his a$$ in the air when he skated and because he was fat, dad coach made him a defence man, what a joke! Team got relegated and those 2 losers got fired, never coached again. One of the kids went to play for North York but he eventually quit because he sucked.
