It's because players with OHL experience can now go to NCAA. So players who would not have considered OHL before were taken because they can still play NCAA down the road.

Be weary parents and players. You can not just jump into a high end D1 school if your education is not up to par. Take that from me and my experience, you will be directed to lower D1 schools and maybe D3.

Define “ up to par”. Specific grade range? Which schools etc?

How long is piece of string. If your kid sucks at hockey and is dumb at school, bring your expectations down

Although very funny response above, I will give you a better picture. My kid was drafted top 3 rounds in OHL draft about 3 years ago, we didn't sign for the team, instead went to the USHL in their draft and played there, so he could go the NCAA. Although, he was heavily sought by a lot of teams, and had an "B-" average in school, he was not able to land in a really good college program, because of his grades. We wanted to go to BC, Michigan ST, and or Ohio, but none would take him, because he would eat up to much athletic scholarships dollars. They save those funds for the full ride generational players. So if you are in the CHL right now, better go to summer school to upgrade, or you will be going to Toledo Tech to play hockey.

B- is almost an honours/ deans list student and most Canadian kids with a B- when they go to a US school will be at least a B+ making them deans list and getting academic scholarships. Perhaps you failed to mention what academic stream the B- was in.
Additionally, with the new rules of 26 full scholarship available if a team wanted to “spend it all” they could take every player.

Funny enough I am a grad of Toledo tech and landed a great job after school so maybe that is the best path.

OHL will take the dummies that dont care about school, he better be a top pic from there because NO school will touch him when he doesn't make it if he cant hack it in class.

Too bad you didn’t put the time and money into his education. Maybe you could have got him a tutor like you did for hockey.
I had two brothers play junior A and B and both were upset that when hockey was done they were not ready for the real world.
