GTHL Cesspool - Investigation launched on parents paying teams for their sons to be drafted!
Re: GTHL Cesspool - Investigation launched on parents paying teams for their sons to be drafted!
Not just a GTHL thing....you will see a player taken this year whose dad is president of our organization!! We are not a GTHL org! I hear he already has year-end party plans and the champagne is already chilling!!
You also have a kid playing Junior "B" whose dad owns the team who was drafted by Barrie...I think he had 1 pt all year!!
Been happening for years!

We’re part of the Burl Eagles and that first “Prez” sounds a lot like ours! His kid is literally not AAA caliber and would not make the roster of a top 8 GTHL team. I can confirm the party is already being planned though. Sad if he’s able to buy a spot.

Junior leagues have been parent run for decades, but with so many spots it really is inconsequential. Kids who are legit will always find their way.Guest wrote: ↑Thu Mar 30, 2023 5:14 pmThoughts!
When a parent "buys" their kid a spot, all they are doing is buying their kid time to develop. If the kid is a late bloomer, things could pan out. If not, he will likely age out and end up playing CIS.
Bottom line, there are too many eyes in hockey to overlook a kid. If a parent is upset because their kid didn't get drafted, they need to realize that it's not because of corruption...it's because the kid isn't good enough.

What an idiot, u must be one of those that bought a spot... don't u get it? Parents and coaches taking money to get kids drafted into the OHL... That's totally wrong and disgusting.Guest wrote: ↑Fri Mar 31, 2023 10:41 amJunior leagues have been parent run for decades, but with so many spots it really is inconsequential. Exactly this. Kurtis MacDermid was a bad player on a weak Grey-Bruce team but he got drafted to Owen Sound because his family are a part of the ownership group. He then grew 5 inches and now he's played over 200 games in the NHL on great teams and won a cup. These kids that had spots for them will only actually make the OHL if they develop. Being drafted is cool but it doesn't mean a lot at the end of the day. Undrafted kids can still make it if they have it and put in the work.Guest wrote: ↑Fri Mar 31, 2023 10:41 amJunior leagues have been parent run for decades, but with so many spots it really is inconsequential. 1) your kid didn't get drafted
2) you can't afford to buy your kid a spot
3) you think if those kids with bought spot weren't in the picture, then your kid would have been drafted
4) you go to bed every night, fantasying about your kid hoisting Lord Stanleys cup over his head, after going bar-down to score the series winner
5) now your bubble has burst and you need to blame somebody

Oh you’re missing something alright. Morals. How can you defending this slimy bs?!? And you think that HE is the one with the problem?? And he’s a news flash for you, for every kid that has a bribed spot, they have stolen from another kid who actually deserved it.Guest wrote: ↑Fri Mar 31, 2023 12:46 pmYes I get it...you're woke because;Guest wrote: ↑Fri Mar 31, 2023 11:34 amWhat an idiot, u must be one of those that bought a spot... don't u get it? Is it that unreasonable that the guy who owns the team and giving tuition packages to kids every year, decides to draft his own kid, or his nephew or the son of an NHL alumni or the grandson of his major sponsor?Guest wrote: ↑Sat Apr 01, 2023 5:06 pmOh you’re missing something alright. Think of it like this...your kid has to be in the top 250 to be drafted and there are 50 spots reserved for owners kids and "sponsors". If he's #251, then he doesn't get drafted.
