You claim the team your son played on was much better run then previous AAA teams. Were those teams run poorly or were they ran well but your cchl experience was just better? As for variety of competition - A HEO u18 club will not only play the same 4 teams, but many other teams from across Ontario that are legit good U18 organizations.
Also...if your kid is planning to tryout are you sure he will make it? 4 lines down to 3. Half as many teams and all former legit AAA players....approx 130+ kids are gonna be out of a job with all those teams eliminated so spots are gonna be tight come tryout time.
Who knows. Might be a wicked good situation.
Legit AAA players?!?!?!
First Ottawa can only support a MAX of 2 AAA teams per age group.
Second, if you are still playing AAA in U18AAA, you're no longer a "legit" AAA player. The dream is over.
Why stop at a reduction of only 7 teams?? What 's your logic?
Isn't 2 teams a higher concentration of talent? Isn't that the goal of legacy AAA, to stop rhe league from being watered down?
If we compare ourselves to the GTHL who have 12 teams, if we have more than 3 our teams will be watered down.
Yhetr will NEVER be more than 2 teams worth of HEO players who move on to Jr. A, or Major Jr. Hockey. Having more than 2 AAA teams doesn't make sense.
What points are wrong?
1 How many times would they play each other during the year?
2 How many tournaments would they go to? More you attend drives up cost.
3 Depending on tournaments and game schedule each team might need a full-time paid coach. Drives up cost.
Nope I'm talking 2 teams for ALL of AAA age groups, it's far too watered down! Players get worse by practicing against, and whine with lower caliber players.
They could have some exhibition games against each other, but the majority of their games would be tournaments.
They would have to attend 7-10 tournaments a year. They would get to practice more. I see no comprehension of player development here. What about practice to game ratio? Should be at least 3-1, we don't get anywhere near that. Many teams go to almost as many tournaments already AND play 30 league games. How about getting more skating and skills, more meaningful workouts-at least 3 days a week, not the waste if time once a week they do now.
There is LOTS to do each week instead of travelling to useless league games all across the city, getting there 1.5 hrs befire games etc. Waste of time.
Now this is for people seeking out the truly elite, no AA mentality parents/players.
Costs would be cheaper and less weekly travel.
Players would get better, have better hockey/school/home life balance, competition would be much higher and exposure would be massive.
Or you stick with you watered down AA mentality.

Re: Ottawa U18 2022/23 Season
No you are totally right. And to make sure that the 2 team model works best, it should/would cost at least $50K per season (since there would be like 10-20 tournaments). This way, the elitists get maximum exposure, and it also weeds out the poor people.Guest wrote: ↑Fri Jun 02, 2023 5:43 pmGuest wrote: ↑Fri Jun 02, 2023 2:54 pmMaybe the Adolf above who thinks there should only be two teams to avoid "watering down" will get his wish and then some. Why not 2? You can't even articulate an argument against.

Sorry your kid didn't put up the stats you wanted him to this past year, most likely it was because he had bad teammates. I think he deserves only the best, and since you can get everything you mentioned above at a place like SAC, Shattuck or Notre Dame, we'll assume that you've already enrolled him.
