What's the fear in minor hockey to speak up when maltreatment occurs?

Losing Ice Time
Being seen as the problem
Having your child and yourself being poked fun at on forums such as these.
Losing their child's position, or the child losing friends.

It’s usually not an issue of not getting enough ice time, it’s that the parents want the most ice time for their own kid, who they see play through rose coloured glasses. Almost always ends in epic embarrassment for the kid, just ask the 2012 JRC goalie about his psycho mothers antics.

Well, my guess is that when the maltreatment occurs, a coach or certain players dictate the resolution. And when it’s later discovered that the players who dictated the resolution actually were the main problem, the coach now has egg in his face.
So now the ones who should be punished aren’t and the others are afraid to step up for fear of retribution.

Because deep down those parents know that what occurred isn't really "maltreatment" and that they would be branded as complainers...which is exactly what they are.

Or super star makes a comment that would garner a long suspension if said on the ice but coach is too chicken to impose the same penalty when his protege says it to teammates. Cuz that would look bad on the coach. So the players who heard it are afraid to speak up.

Why do some parents think that teams should be coached by parent committee and ones that do want to chair that committee?

Advice to new coaches out there:

You’ve committed to the team for the season, which means “X” number days and “X” number of hours. 100% of this time commitment is for the players not the parents.

You are NOT obligated to take time out of your busy life to counsel a delusional parent or parents. Your time is valuable and if a parent insists on taking up your time then you can give them some of the time you’ve allotted for the team. Book your parent meeting during practices and let the assistant coaches run practice or find some volunteer parents to skate the team.

advice to new coaches out there - push your kid forward and take the cash while you can - the roof is going to cave in soon on these grifter coaches and finally the sun will expose the dirt
