OMHA - realignment - NRP program.

Did anyone at the table discuss "what is best for the player" not just what is best for our Ontario Minor Hockey Association? It feels like a board decided that they don't want any movement between Alliance and OMHA unless it's AAA. If it's about the game and development and fun then shouldn't you continue to support all of those things for the players that are in your NRP Program! I wish OMHA would see the effects this realignment with NO grandfather caluse is having on players in everyday life not just the hockey!

This is just once again a parent that has their kid being an NRP and hoping he's on the team again next year. But remember its not what is best just for that one player.

Demographics of Ontario is changing.

All hockey programs are suffering from lack of enrollment, at all age levels.

Many LL/HL programs are gone. So if you can't make a REP team you don't have anywhere to play just for fun.

The changes stop warm bodies (forget about how good a player is) from going to another center and thus having less warm bodies in that players home center.

Many forget that for most smaller centers this is exactly how it worked in the 70's & 80's. If you didn't make the tier 1 team, you either played HL or if you were lucky your association had an informal agreement with some neighboring associations to send players to one consolidated team to play on a Tier 2 team.

OMHA is on the path to have AAA, then A with Contact (labeled AA); & A Non-Contact (labeled A). These levels will all actually be zone teams. With the local level having C/D non contact leagues.

I do feel for those that have concerns about the coaching and how some organizations are run. Those are very valid parenting concerns. Don't like it maybe step up and volunteer. But as it settles in over a couple years, it will just be how it works and everyone will adjust.

You bring up a good point on board at OMHA. Are they not mandated to have a certain amount of females, under 40 and ethnicity????? Basically a mosaic of society as we are today in Ontario.

Why does it matter what ethnicity or gender a person? Age even? Old, white men can genuinely make up a good board, as long as they are good people.

Good people? When's the last time OMHA did the right thing? Seriously. Talk to your OMHA rep and you'll see the vocabulary they use. I get it's a thankless job, but most OMHA reps are quick to assume no referee did anything wrong (cause they're hard to find), parents who complain are all "crazy hockey parents", and while that is true in some cases, not every claim is "crazy", they are afraid to mandate minor hockey boards to do the right thing and wash their hands because they are basically scamming fees from every hockey registration yearly. Major events of maltreatment are swept under the rug, they hold kids hostage under stupid residency rules. It's time to abolish all these member partners in Ontario and have ONE effective governing body and open borders. Give the freedom of choice to the player, not your member partner and geographical location. They won't because the fear is it weeds out the ineffective people and the bad coaches.

What I've come to learn with amalgamations is that it was all about money. OMHA is head office, local hockey centres are franchisees. The amalgamations are keeping smaller non-competetive centres alive and pumping out money. They don't care about your kid, just sucker parents forking out cash. Meanwhile rogue league like ORHL attract dozens of teams and eat their lunches.

ORHL unfortunately isn't well managed. YET. But here's hoping.

Hey OMHA how's your fraud case going against your own employee who stole $2-3 million bucks? Hey Hockey Canada, why did you use parents money in a slush fund to cover up all your sexual assault cases? Oh right, not parents funds! LOL Hockey is a business. And to think most minor hockey suckers are doing this shit for free to feed up to the man! The ole crooked ass white man renting condo's in downtown TO. Or the perks and trips of being a HC exec. Cess pool.
