When some kids play 2 mins in a period, it’s a problem. Imagine the mindset of the coach who wants to win so badly that he has a 7 year old on the bench and still can’t win gold. That’s the sort of strategy that no one should defend…
ultimately, it will be a free market at U10 since all can see performance in one single tournament. Even if you play Aces, Ducks, Saint, you will get looked upon by perspective JRC, Marlboro coaches. If you made Omasta team or any other team, it doesn’t guarantee a U10 AAA spot.
Nobody is saying that being on Omasta Raiders is guarantee AAA spot. Coaches will know the kids who perform and play well. But it’s a real problem when there are no opportunities to prove yourself.
Agree. And no one is saying benching kids is okay. It’s just not unique to this team - kings, ducks, saints, aces, raiders , all nyhl teams, they all do it. And if anyone says it doesn’t happen on their team, it’s only because their kid hasn’t been on the receiving end of it.
Come on. It happens more in some team than others. It’s about the intensity of how bad it is. Aces ducks saints don’t go to Omasta level…ask any Duffield parent who left Omasta team. Or ask the kids on Omasta team who play a few mins per period ( if that)
It’s an issue and some people may have chose not to join but coaches that will develop kids are not going to do that at this age unless it’s a championship game. Doing this in spring tournaments is just unacceptable.
I think it’s hard to imagine being in the shoes of any coach, especially if they’re repping the Bulldogs name, playing in their tournament, and competing against another Bulldog team.
