Guest wrote: Thu Jul 11, 2024 1:10 pm The Brick has become ridiculous and I say that as someone who was just there with a team that did pretty well. It used to be you went there with the team from your area...but now as others have mentioned you have people moving all over the country and claiming residency in states just to get on a certain brick team. How is that fair let alone normal? Hockey has just gotten weird and I don't see it changing. Good luck to all the kids who love the sport. It's being ruined by idiot parents with too much time and money.
I know of 5 such idiot parents.
literally flew down on weekends to try out for multiple BRICK teams in the USA.
The kid couldn't make a Toronto team, but maybe a weaker USA team will take their kid, even though they can't skate.
this is so true.
I also know a couple of these morons.
I think 1 or 2 VK dads had no choice because DG lied to them......
They thought they had an in.
I know people in the US who did this. Some moved states and made a team...then others flew the kids all over trying to make a team to be an import I guess. Didn't work.

Food for thought
Sooooo true lol
Don’t show him this forum!!! Lol
Ken Campbell doesn't get it. The sheer fact you can move your kid from a 0.1% chance of making the NHL (AAA team) to a 4% chance of making the NHL .. why would you not do the Brick? He is forgetting about the rates these kids are captains of teams, on provincial/national teams, making it to OHL/Div 1 College in US. The Brick is a gateway to so much learning, excitement, experience. He doesn't get it.
You don't get the difference between correlation and causation

York Region, watch out PH/TBD
Never heard of own hockey?
They can’t even win CCT tournaments
I hope they do get a team. PH and BD only get the best players trying out because they have a Brick charter. They aren’t developing those kids. They bring talented kids, gouge every rich parent wearing goggles for two years and then lose in the playoffs at the Brick. If they can’t lose their charter then they rinse and repeat with no accountability…
They can’t lose their teams and a third one can’t be added in Ontario. No point arguing it.
If PH and BD keep the charter as is, they need to have OHF review all financials to make sure they are not leveraging this duopoly position around the Brick for Profit. Everything related to the Brick should be Not for Profit.
The Brick tournament owns the charter, not the teams. The OHF also has no authority over it because it’s unsanctioned summer hockey. Every team in the Brick is in the same boat. If you don’t want the teams making money then don’t have your kid try out. Pretty simple.

Check this guy out lol.... thinks spring hockey is supposed to be not for profit hahahaha.... you must be new. There's no OHF, no audits, just shut up and pay... or don't if your kid is good enough.
Yes I am new, however, right! Why are we tolerating 'profit' to be sourced against a duopoly position for an International Minor Hockey Tournament? This does not make sense. We all have a collective responsibility to get costs out of kids sports. When we see a person/team/organization leverage a position like this for profit, fix it. I get it, this goes way beyond the Brick but needs to happen in all facets of hockey. Personally, I will be asking for an audit/budget upon application. Costs need to be fair across team and Not for Profit.
This is they will say. 🖕
