My bad wrong team
I think you mean the sens
from what I saw this summer Reps, Sens, TRW were the biggest money grabs Reps and Sens running 2 skates a week all summer at &70 per kid with 60+ kids a skate. Reps cutting kids in late Aug to upgrade. AB, SM laughing all the way to the bank. Funny that both coaches also coach the Blades.
I bet they didn’t ask one of those kids to come out and skate either. I bet the kids just kept coming and paying for ice too. I bet the kids benefited from skating with them as well. I bet your kid was one of the kids and thought he had a chance to make the team! I bet your kid is still looking for a spot! I bet he’s not on a team cause of his parents! Place your bets!
You forgot to also mention the NYR and Nats. They too had the same thing going on all summer. I think you are failing to recognize that this is a business. Cudos to those coaches making money. People will come and people will pay. None of these coaches forced these kids to attend and pay. So stop bitching about it.
PS. This happens everywhere not only the GTHL.
I agree that no one holds a gun to their head to come to skates. However to have 60+ kids at a skate blows your theory of kids improving out of the water. Why not have 25-30 if its a true skills session. Heck SM was running skates till last week with tons of kids.
So lets do the math, $70 x 50 kids conservative average = $3500 - $700 ice -$200 coaches = $2600 per skate x 2 per week = $5200 week cash. x4 weeks = $20800 month x 5 months = $104000 + the tournaments and other stuff. great way to make a living.
My kid had a choice of teams I didn't need to bother with your bottom feeder money maker skates. You sound like you are buddies with SM, bet your kid is no where close to a decent player and I bet he is "AP" with the blades. Hitch your wagon to that if you want, but facts are facts.
One of these teams you are accusing never had 60+ kids at any skate this summer. Team also was clear all skates were open, meaning: no one was forced to come. If you think these were "tryout" skates and coach didn't offer you a spot or talk to you after seeing your kid one of two times, then its on you. Next year call the coach, ask if he is looking. if the answer is yes, ask when you can bring him out. After aske him what did he think of your kid. If he likes him and wants him he will know and you will know right away. Pretty simple.
Who are you trying to kid. As I said before, no one was forced to go, however I know for a fact that multiple players were told to continue to come out even after the team was full, and they were being lead on with no intention of them being signed. Unfortunately many parents are lead on by both their ego and coaches. The thing is that look at the team that the Sens have, you can tell who is paying and who are there due to politics. The team was 7th place team last season and their better players have left. Replacements are kids from Reps, AA and other weak teams. no playoffs for you guys this season.
