I have no idea why we wait for kids to hit puberty
Maybe because the data shows the number of concussions that come from introducing checking earlier?
It's a nice dream to think "kids at age 10 will learn to protect themselves, take a hit, hit responsibly, learn balance and body positioning".
It's a harsh reality that these kids aren't that well coordinated, don't know how to use their bodies, and are tired because daddy had them at power skating at 6am every day this week because that's what it takes to make the show, and by god when you get out there you better hit somebody, and by the way they'd rather be watching cartoons anyways. That's not a situation conducive to learning how to hit correctly.
