This guy is nothing but an arrogant, pompous former minor hockey referee who happened to lick/rim a lot of ass-holes to get where he is now. He's bad for minor hockey and organizations. This guy is trying to eliminate organizations that spent a lot of money and time to provide a place/space for children to play hockey. SO is also secretly aligning himself with "So-Called" Volunteer Organizations that help operate City-Run arenas, like George Bell or Vaughan.
We all know SO has a two-tier class attitude towards "AAA" and "A"/"AA" organizations. For example - if you operate an "AAA" organization, you are treated like a VIP. All "AAA" organizations are automatically awarded all the age divisions. No questions asked because the GTHL makes their money here.
If you solely operate an "A"/"AA" organization, then you are done. You basically have to beg to be awarded a team, which is usually a U10 team. That's if they are lucky to get it. The GTHL doesn't care because there is hardly any money to be made. You're better off merging with an organization like George Bell or Vaughan (because of volume - HL, SEL, "A" & "AA" teams), and that's why SO and the rest of the (br)ass want to reduce these types of organizations, by making it impossible to continue to operate in this current environment.
OR... You need to take SO and Ken Smith (another douchebag old fart that's been there way too long) out for steaks, lobsters and prostitutes to receive any luck of being awarded any teams.
All organizations should be automatically awarded all age divisions and let the organizations control their fate. Not, the GTHL. Remember, players are free to go anywhere they want when the season finishes. This formula will create competition among the organization to provide the best services (coaches) and bang for their buck, meaning to help lower the registration cost to attract players/parents. It's called simple economics - Supply & Demand.
Speaking of, players are free to go anywhere they want when the season finishes. The GTHL needs to finally resolve these so-called "birthday skates". Either drop the hammer on organizations that allow their coaches to do birthday skates, or allow birthday skates to be legal.
You have parents going nuts driving to multiple arenas to attend birthday skates, so their child can make a team. Lots of gas and money are being spent. Otherwise, when parents do wait for tryouts to happen, these teams are filled. Just look at teams who had only one tryout date. You know that the team was filled by the end of January.
Another thing... Is Rep hockey supposed to be at a higher level than select? If so, why is there no hitting at the "A" level? I understand the GTHL wanted to create a space for non-contact hockey for children to play, but there is a place... It's called select hockey. No one wants to play "A" hockey without hitting. The GTHL are hindering children's development to move up if they are playing at a non-contact level. "AA" coaches are not going to give a fair look or have reservations when evaluating "A" players since they have missed a year of hitting.
Then again, maybe the GTHL is eliminating their competition - NYHL. MHL should watch out. They could be next.
Look at the OMHA. All U14 teams and up "A" players are hitting, and they have unlimited AP. This is how you place a system to develop players to advance to higher levels.
If you are wondering or curious how I know all about SO (GTHL) and KS (Board Members) plans, it's a small community. Everybody talks, duh!
