Bulldogs, PH Hockey, go to Detroit .. anything to get on a Brick Team. Skates are like $80, dropping $10K between winter and spring hockey .. all with the goal to get on a Brick Team. Everyone saying path thru AAA and O starts with the Brick. Currently getting the run around but kid on the ice 6x/week trying to get on the team. Literally, having 5-6 conversations about the Brick Team(s) every single day.
The obsession with the brick has gotten insane. It's about who can afford it, not about putting the best team on the ice. Who has the money to spend 25-30K to play for a Spring team?

I get the impression that the parents who have good 10 year old hockey players really think they've got this in the bag and nothing is going to change between now and the time they turn 16.

What are you thinking? Sending 10 year olds to hockey academies, getting on planes every other weekend for games, playing up, moving to a new location for a hockey team, putting everything your kid does on instagram, moving teams the moment something doesn't go YOUR way. You've ruined youth hockey for many others. Thanks.
Having been through it with a kid picked late in the OHL draft a few years back, it literally means NOTHING right at that age. Until puberty/hitting starts, you have no idea. Sure, the best of the best at 9-11 are usually high end kids come then, but just because you're playing AAA right now, doesnt mean a thing. Let them develop, have fun, etc. The stuff I see on IG (parents creating accounts to highlight their kids is probably the most pathetic egotistical stuff I've ever seen tbh), etc is pathetic.

If they become a high end player in U14 then start thinking about it. Until then, literally means nothing.

Oh, you’re right! Every kid has a totally equal shot at the NHL. In fact, I just saw a scout at Tim Hortons recruiting a 16 year old who can barely skate but has $5,000 worth of gear. Dreams do come true!
That’s true! Or if you have elite connections like Akil No Names
AT on the LAK in the NHL. Look at his skating
He’s irrelevant and doesn’t even play anymore. Only idiots followed his career and thought he was going anywhere.
Buddy I’m a Kings fan, he’s our third line center this year and now shockingly a millionaire who can’t play hockey. Just shows you that even if you can’t skate and have the connections you can make it. In his case he played the BLM card during his draft year and the Scarborough card. Little did anyone know he went to St. mikes and his family owned multiple properties in Florida.
I knew a fanboy puck bunny that used to follow him around lol
Buddy, I saw him at Dieppe shinny. I was embarrassed on his behalf for how crap he is at the sport.

Guest wrote: Wed Mar 26, 2025 12:38 pm Alright, I’ve been sitting back, watching all these proud hockey dads brag about their kids, keeping my mouth shut (well, mostly… maybe a few anonymous posts here and there, but nothing major). But let me break my silence real quick.

My kid? Absolute weapon. Over 6 feet tall, a little lean at 160, but shredded…legs like tree trunks. This kid was built for the game. Speed? Unreal. Shot? Lethal. Plays hard, no ego, total team guy. Everything about him screams NHL material.

So why isn’t he in AAA yet? I’ve been racking my brain, and I finally figured it out, it’s jealousy. Other parents see the natural talent, the raw skill, and they know if he gets in, it’s over for their kid. Everyone wants their golden ticket to the show, and they’ll do whatever it takes to keep a real one out.

So, what’s the move? How do I get him into AAA so he can finally get noticed? Because once he’s in, it’s a done deal.
Do you believe in unicorns? Because what you described does not exist :) stop with the meds bud!
In the case of my kid, it's about the coaching. He needs more power play time and just not getting. His stats are off the charts on 5x5. Coupled this with some power play time, he will get the first view from scouts.
