Everything I know about the KSL is that they are having a hard time rostering players, high fees and not much starting to make sense for parents to go that route.
Okay this isn't turning into an NYHL/KSL propaganda war. I was just wondering if anyone knows anything good or bad or otherwise about the Stars.
I don't think it was meant to be a war with that comment. It is fact that they cant roster and the fees are high. Toronto stars are apart of the GP / NYR series of teams. Do your research on who is involved there
I'm not asking about the KSL or their fees or if they're -allegedly- having problems filling their rosters. I'm asking specifically and only about the Stars team. As to doing my research, that's exactly what I'm (trying) to do.

That said, thank you for the info about them being a part of GP/NYR, that is helpful. I just read that someone on the 2015 AAA thread said that the NYR were going to be terrible in this age group. I wonder what that opinion is founded on.
Im going to go out on a limb here and say the opinion was made due to them skating with what is looking like will be the feeder team into the NYR AAA team. Also being in GTHL for many years now with my other children, NYR are always a bottom feeder as are the TRW and TT, its just factual information. Unfortunately the top GTHL teams (JRC, TYN, TM, VK) will always draw the most interest.

To answer your previous question about the Toronto Stars - I would stay away

NYR 2012s just lost in the finals
If you take NYR 2012 out of the equation, NYR basically has a similar profile to MM, TRW, Reps. I think VK, TM, JRC are typically near the top of the standings every year. One of the Mississauga teams is typically mid-pack every year, along with DMF and TYN. TRW, Reps, Titans, MM generally near the bottom. Always exceptions in every year. MM has won the 2010 age group the last two seasons.

Basically if you want to play AAA, find a place where you like the parents, you like the coach and you are comfortable driving. I have an older kid playing TRW - we like it, it works for him and works for us as a family. Is he winning a ton, no not at all, has he had a good experience overall - definitely. Is there somewhere that could be better for him next year - probably and if the opportunity arises we'd probably go somewhere better for us as a family.

Anyone know when to contact a coach for the following years AAA consideration. I had my kid tryout with one of the AAA teams and on the first tryout (before stepping foot on the ice) they were sizing kids for their jerseys. I felt like the team was already set. Looking to be better prepared for next season.

You didn’t go to the New Year skates? Too late bro, all the spots are filled. Crushing hangover on Jan 1 of course but definitely worth it to get my kid on MM. Mark ot on your calendar now so you don’t blow it next year too.

2015 AAA teams are already skating kids. Find a team that's turning into a AAA team and go skate. But don't be fooled, teams with AAA affiliations will take the best kids they see fit when the time comes.

teams for the following season are usually set by November/December
by rules they have "try-outs".

what you can do if you are still interested AAA is to check on the GTHL website for "Players Wanted"

Aren’t rosters at 75% pre tryouts with the remaining 25% selection being made during the tryouts? Not sure why someone commented that if he missed the New Years skate he missed out. I don’t believe this is true.

A more experienced dad that has been through this can correct me if this is wrong, but this is what I was told by a coach.

The top teams are pretty much full with the possibility of allowing a single player if they have somehow gone unnoticed over the past year or if someone bails last minute, but that's not likely. The other six or seven teams will have two, three or possibly even four spots during the April tryouts. But right now the rush is on to get commitments before other teams do or be left with the players that no one wanted which is why there are skates happening so frequently right now.

Are these verbal commitments? We live in OMHA territory and my son skates with a bunch of AAA level kids. We made the Apring team but the coaches were just announced. I didn’t think anything official could even happen before the tryouts but I guess it might be different with GTHL boundaries…
