Due to all the complaints, we have made it mandatory for everyone who wants to comment to register with a valid email address.

As Of November 13th 2023 Registration is no longer in effect. this may change again in future

The only way it's different now is people can't have conversations with themselves pretending to be different people in a thread. Something I believe happened quite a lot in reality.

From the perspective of not being anonymous anymore, it's really no different. People can't click on your profile and see who you are.
