Sounds like mergers and amalgamations are happening within OMHA for small town centres. Minor hockey associations are tight lipped, somethings brewing, who's got the scoop?

No scoop but if that’s true it’s long overdue and good to see!

In the York-Simcoe loop alone:

Innisfil and Bradford merged to create the South Simcoe Storm
East Gwillimbury and Georgina merged to create the Upper York Admirals
King went AA to avoid having their players poached as NRP's

The ripple effect from AA down will be big.

The problems will still be the same for the intermediate size centres
They can’t compete at the AAA level versus the major centres and become to watered down to compete at the AA and A level because they are already spread so thin trying to fill under skilled AAA

There should be a Grandfather clause!!!!!!

OMHA - realignment - NRP program.

Did anyone at the table discuss "what is best for the player" not just what is best for our Ontario Minor Hockey Association? It feels like a board decided that they don't want any movement between Alliance and OMHA unless it's AAA. If it's about the game and development and fun then shouldn't you continue to support all of those things for the players that are in your NRP Program! I wish OMHA would see the effects this realignment with NO grandfather caluse is having on players in everyday life not just the hockey!

So let me get this straight. A AAA player (u14 and up) who left his home centre to go to another one this season with open borders is being given the choice to stay or go back. A AA player (u12 and up) who used an NRP passport will not get that option?

How does that make any sense?

It doesn't make any sense. Also why are OMHA AAA teams allowed to keep "out of zone" players next year under Policy 5.4 of the OMHA Handbook, but AA NRP's aren't allowed the same rights?

5.4 Grandfathering

Grandfathering is a mechanism which is designed to give relief to a player who registered in a Centre the previous season within existing regulations and who would be denied that right the following season as a result of the passage of new or amended residence regulations. Having exercised his right under this policy, such player may return and register with his Home Centre within the regulations if a release is obtained from his current Centre.

So if a AA center is surrounded by two A centers, and each A center has 2 kids that can play AA, one kid doesn't get that opportunity because reasons? So every kid doesn't get an equal chance, basically because they live in a small town?

OMHA / Tricounty need to give their heads a shake

Everyone has opportunity. But you can't NRP from one AA to another AA! These mergers are making new sized A and AA centres so some NRP players go back to their newly created AA or A centre. So parents are whining to stay where they are rather than go back to home centre.

The NRP players now have a home AA centre and they get to play AA hockey in their hometown.

Sounds like a win.
