I am thinking of sending my kid to IMG Hockey in Florida for Grade 11 and 12? It is not cheap but an option to get a Div 1 Scholarship.

Ok.. my son is a boarding student and plays on the First Hockey team for SAC. Here are the answers to your questions. The cost is close to what you mention .. there is also an athletic fee (5,000 I think ) on top of tuition and boarding. Bursaries/ athletic scholarships are possible at a great discount , but is was based on both how much they want you AND your family’s economic situation ( there is a VERY through application process). It took us a week to get everything organized to be processed. Let me be clear, we are solidly middle class.. we could not have afforded this on our own.
Here is what I know… our son was drafted to the OHL, went to the rookie camp was invited back to main camp, but it was make clear that they had a lot of returning players and more than likely there would not be a spot for us in September.
SAC reached out and we have never looked back, even though the OHL team attempted to recall us three times. We said no.
SAC plays in the American prep school league and it is great hockey, and we had a D1 verbal offer before Christmas.
SAC made is very clean from the beginning that they are a school with a very good hockey team, not a hockey team that goes to school. As a parent, this is evident .. they are preparing my son for both his future in hockey and beyond.
For those parents who are “draft focused”.. there is never a shortage of scouts ( D1, OHL and NHL) at their games .. plenty of looks happening! This is the best thing we could have done for our son.

Hey, thanks for this. What is your final cost including the athletic fee? My kid is going into Grade 10 and thinking about it for Grade 11 and 12. We are less 'draft' focus and more Div 1 focused. I know full scholarship are hard but hoping for a 50% ride, Lots of kids seem to have to redshirt first year and enter a year late to Div 1.
