While some coaches actively recruit, the majority of coaches follow the rules, and don't initiate conversations with players or parents. They only respond to inquiries.
Majority of active recruiting occurs among the parents, who try to guide improvements to their kids team.
Bday skates are a benefit mainly to the player, because conflicting tryout schedules.
If only 1-2 team player spots available.
How many player$ maximum should be in attendance at each Bday party.
Tampering is out of control

Re: Tampering is out of control
This is the best way to get caught for tampering. If it is your teams ice time and the team paid for it bringing in other kids is asking for trouble. There are going to be parents on the current team that are paying for ice, so other kids can come in and take their spots, they will complain to the GTHL. It is pretty easy for the GTHL to investigate since it is team ice time.Guest wrote: ↑Tue Feb 27, 2024 12:57 pm I agree that good teams/coaches do not hold traditional "cattle call" birthday skates.
What they do is bring 3-4 kids to skate with their existing team at one of their practices. This happens from time to time.

You are correct...not a smart move at all. AND hosting a "skate" for next years roster on this years budget is financially unethical.Guest wrote: ↑Tue Feb 27, 2024 1:08 pmYou can't have non-rostered with your club players at the team practices for the insurance reasons. This is only done with players from the same club, having an A player out to an AA practice. Maybe kid was a call up, if not then that's pure stupidity.Guest wrote: ↑Tue Feb 27, 2024 1:57 pmThis is the best way to get caught for tampering. With the hourly rate for ice, 25 players is hardly a cash grab.Guest wrote: ↑Tue Feb 27, 2024 1:55 pmCash grab.Guest wrote: ↑Mon Feb 26, 2024 11:32 pmBetween 20 to 25…enough to run a decent scrimmage.Guest wrote: ↑Sat Feb 24, 2024 5:05 amBenefit$…Guest wrote: ↑Fri Feb 23, 2024 8:52 pmGuest wrote: ↑Sun Feb 11, 2024 9:50 am Never ever has it been this bad. Junior A clubs will have 4 to 6 full rosters (12F 6D 2G) in a "development camp" @ $300 - $400 per player, just to play a bunch of 50 minute inter-squad games over a weekend. Those are cash grabs.

Our coach is doing that right now.. I had same thought. We are paying for the ice to get replaced.. LOL But happens all the time. So much wrong with minor hockey.

That does not happen all the time. Not in my experience.Guest wrote: ↑Tue Feb 27, 2024 2:06 pmGuest wrote: ↑Tue Feb 27, 2024 1:59 pmYou are correct...not a smart move at all. Re: Tampering is out of control
Back in the day, players could request a waiver from their org permitting them to practice with another team. Not sure if this is still the case, but if so then it's legit.Guest wrote: ↑Tue Feb 27, 2024 2:06 pmGuest wrote: ↑Tue Feb 27, 2024 1:59 pmYou are correct...not a smart move at all. The primary reason for player cards and waivers, it to ensure there are no outstanding fees when players leave.
Re: Tampering is out of control
A lot of these so called wannabe coaches need a wake up call from a good old boy from down east LOL like to see them try this on my kid or even try to get me to pay for a “birthday skate” some AAA coaches want $60 a skate, nope, sorry boy, my kid skates for free and I’ll see your fat a$$ in the parking lot if you have any problem with it lol
