There are some great coaches, most of the good ones leave coaching, most of the terrible ones tho are s**cking off someone on the board to get the gig never leave!!!! Mostly because they keep their kid relevant. There is never any conflict of interest in who coaches! Problem is how long does it continue before it just makes it not worth doing anymore? 1 year,2 3 4 5? Bad coaches eventually rot themselves out of the position! Imagine though if we let our school teachers act/talk to kids like we allow bad hockey coaches to?
- he had a great shift, when he didn’t
- he’s a great teammate, when he’s not
- he’s improved a ton this year, when he hasn’t
- and that he wants him back next year, when he doesn’t
Why would you want a coach to lie to your kid?
You totally missed the point rockstar! That 's a good coach and a good teacher!! But are your teachers yelling and swearing like a caveman at your kid? Humiliating him in front of the peers by calling him a useless piece of s**t. Or grabbing your kid by the cage and telling him that he shoots like a girl? Telling refs to f**k off, fighting with parents if they want to have a conversation that might upset his feelings! Never open to any feedback because he knows it all. Storms out of arenas like a 2 year old. Kicks and swears. Runs unorganized practices. Half in the bag at the best of times to try and get through the day. You can witness that any day at almost any rink, you'd be hard pressed to find that in a school.
I’m sure you see it that way. Because your kid stinks and his delicate ego isn’t used to hearing the truth, so you need to build a narrative to justify your hatred for the long line of coaches who burst your kids bubble, simply by telling him the truth.
I’ve put 3 kids through rep hockey in the G, where the hockey community is tight and word travels fast, and have NEVER heard of or met anyone who has experienced what you’ve described. If there are such coaches, they are few and far between.
Narrow minded. There is life outside the G fella, step outside of it once in awhile and you might be enlightened. This has nothing to do with a skill level of a player, in fact my kid doesn't even play for this coach anymore, he moved up. So your analogy is way off, he excelled without the help of this coach. And it's not a fantasy, coach isn't smart enough to have not put most of his bs on texts and emails. The proof is real. But you carry on bubble boy.
It takes a special person to hang on to miserable times, while they "claim" to be in a better place. It's more likely that your kid was cut because of you and you still resent him for it.
What happened to you, in your home centre, isn't representative of the majority. You're the one who need to be enlightened.

2011 A team in the west has a non-parent coach. Welcome all kids as we are rebuilding.

Listen here tyke parent, you'll see how it really is soon enough. Step out of the 905 and really see what's going on. OMHA didn't get ripped off for millions of dollars. HC didn't cover up and pay out multiple sexual misconduct cases. Oh the toxic culture of hockey is merely an elaborate story. Watch the hundreds of social media posts about coaches/players and parents acting like idiots. This is the stuff you can SEE, imagine the stuff you can't. If hockey is soooo bad, why do you enrol your kid? Why risk exposing him to sexual abuse, at the hands of thousands of predatory coaches? Is it because he's going the NHL?
If your kid can't handle a hometown OMHA coach who acts like a jerk, he will never survive in the OJ GOJ NOJ CC.
