Agreed. Probably still a couple delusional kids/parents at this age level but most are playing for fun.Guest wrote: ↑Tue Feb 11, 2025 5:35 pmAgreed. U17 could be the last year before going to University. Meaningless pay big bucks just to fund coaches job.
2008 GTHL AA West

Is it worth having paid coaches for U18AA? The budget for our team is actually going up! Secondly, is there a point for development skates and Dryland?

Good question, I’m wondering this myself so I’ll be following. Why would your budget be going up? Usually doesn’t at this age.Guest wrote: ↑Wed Feb 12, 2025 9:51 amIs it worth having paid coaches for U18AA? The budget for our team is actually going up! Does your child want to play in the NHL when he grows up?

Single A or AA is the same.

Does your son get much ice time?
Re: 2008 GTHL AA West
at 17/18 years old the "development" has peaked and what you see is what you get. if they do not have the urge to be in a gym to work on their fitness no "dryland" sessions will change that. If the kid wants it all bets off. development and dryland will be key but the kid would lead that. Dont waste anymore money unless your kid really wants itGuest wrote: ↑Wed Feb 12, 2025 9:54 amGood question, I’m wondering this myself so I’ll be following. Why would your budget be going up? Re: 2008 GTHL AA West
Look at teams that appear to be well coached rather than if coach is paid. Paid coach doesn't automatically mean success or even that they're good at coaching. There are teams that are failing despite a full team and paid coaches so you got to wonder if it's the coaching. For U18 AA there isn't much sense in the money spent so just find good hockey even at single A if your kid wants to play. More and more kids drop down to avoid the unnecessary injuries, free up time for school/work/other interests, and it's still fast competitive hockey.
