I love these forums, nothing beats watching parents convince themselves their 15/16 year old is a lock for the NHL. Not sure what’s scarier… the kids with no backup plan or the parents when reality (or their bank account) finally hits.

Nothing wrong with that but most can continue to play OHL, junior A and B down the line.
It just depends how you wish to obtain that.
So you’re telling me a 19 year old player is going to go to the OHL and immediately get a spot over the 3 previous *real* draft years? 45 new players minimum in the system over those years. OHL teams prioritize 16 year olds, not overagers. Don’t get people’s hopes up on here man. Certain niche players can make junior b if you’re a goon but it’s over once you’re 21. Then it’s time to get a real job.

Ask what it is going to cost and don't buy any of the BS that this program is going to advance your son. It's good hockey for the final year.
s the Ontario Prep Hockey League (OPHL) going to be any good?
Will this be a better option than GTHL U18 down the road?
Is it worth it?
Going through My hockey rankings, Everest participated in a few tournaments against top OMHA and GTHL teams and held their own. Beating VK, Marlies, North Shore.
I think prep in a few more years will be right up there if not surpass the GTHL. Seems like a great option but time will tell
In the next decade some of them might start to attract top players, similar to how it is in Minnesota high school. Canada is always behind by two decades so it’ll take us some time to catch up.

Agreed…won’t see any traction on that for awhile in Canada. You’re better off sending your little superstar to the States.

Well the states do everything better. Including hockey as you can see the last 3-4 years. Not one Canadian AAA team could touch a Minnesota high school team either.

I'm sure the Minnesota high school teams are on the ice double what the kids in the GTHL do.

Local Prep parents, how many times a week is your athlete on the ice a week excluding game?
how many times a week is your athlete on the in the gym during the week?

GTHL, practice twice a week and gym twice a week.

And guess what they did during Covid while Canadians were locked up, wearing masks, and scared of a common flu? They were on the ice multiple times a day. While Canadians players did nothing. I doubt any 2009 players crack the NHL. There’s a reason why there won’t be many GTHL players being drafted to OHL.

2009 is a very weak group indeed.

Too many kids are being taught to be the one man show. this is a TEAM sport. your kid will get cut for this behaviour, and you aren't helping them, you're the cause for their segregation. That goes for every level of hockey. Parents counting goals is retarted, thinking it’s going to matter. I’ve witnessed it with AA parents and they think the kid is on his way to the show and the kid can’t even make AAA.

St Andrews prep routinely beat top JR B teams and other prep teams that would probably give a few OHL teams a run
