ORHL Thoughts?

Post by Guest »

We have been thinking about moving to the ORHL this year, too many politics and friends groups running our organization. We aren't a AAA family so we feel the play in ORHL will suit us well. Anyone have any input?

We played in the for the first time ORHL this year. Some teams have a hard time getting ice times since the priority is given to OHF teams. There are a bunch of teams that are leaving the league and going to the NAPHL as ORHL is going to be non-contact next year. So, not sure how many teams they will have next season. Also, not sure if body contact matters to your player. Friend group politics were definitely non-existent, and we ended up with a great group of parents and kids.

The hockey sucks - go find a nice AA team.

Honestly, you really just need to try it for yourself before you judge.

I have heard great things about it but have also heard that it's just a collection of the the problem kids and parents.

You aren't going to get real feedback until you experience it for yourself, even if it's just for tryouts.

A lot of people like it because you don't have to follow the Hockey Canada guidelines but there's still politics in it.

I know a bunch of kids who play around my area. They were middle-low end A players and now torch the ORHL... it depends what you are looking for. But the quality of hockey, including the new NAPHL stuff teams are switching to is A hockey at best.

Just play both ORHL and OHF and keep your mouth shut about it, that's what everyone around my town does.

Horrible hockey at mid to late age groups. Kids are choppy skaters and no hockey sense. If your just looking to spend some money and have your kid play non competitive hockey this is your league. Saying this with a due respect to anyone who plays in this league.

Our experience was the hockey was A level at best, but we had a great parent group. Some teams did have problem families who had been blackballed by OHF teams so careful of that. Nobody from this league is ever going to play junior or college hockey of any kind but If you’re looking for your kid to have fun and get some exercise this is a good league.
