ORHL Thoughts?
Re: ORHL Thoughts?
STAY AWAY!!! The owner of the league is ruining the whole league. Re writing rules during the season to benefit his team. The guy is a joke. He should never be allowed to coach again.
Re: ORHL Thoughts?
We went to a skate with the new Halton team and came away with mixed feelings. They are nice guys. They said professional coaching but it’s all dads of kids on the team. Also said they have some AAA calibre players on the team and pointed out the coaches kids who were all no better than single A at best. Possibly Select level. The skate was ok. Nothing great but no complaints either. I’m just worried these are delusional dads who will over play their mediocre kids because they think they’re way better than they are. My son played A hockey last year and none of the coaches kids would even be top 3 on my son’s old team. Maybe I’m over reacting I just don’t want to be caught in a bad situation.

Some definite red flags maybe give it one more skate??Guest wrote: ↑Mon Mar 24, 2025 12:09 pm We went to a skate with the new Halton team and came away with mixed feelings. They are nice guys. I’ve had two kids in AA one of them used to play AAA. I find a lot of parents who never had kids in AAA understand how massive the jump is from AA to AAA. Going from A to AAA is impossible it’s like walking vs running. It sounds like those coaches maybe haven’t seen top players and are just naive. Doesn’t necessarily mean that it would not be a fun year. If they are charging top dollar for parent coaching I would walk away.
Re: ORHL Thoughts?
Seriously just go somewhere, anywhere other than the ORHL. The league owner is a maniac who will bend/break/remove any rules that might affect his team or his kids in any negative way. Lets overaged players play down even if they are at a higher skill level, has the refs in his pockets, rules only apply to other teams, not his own. No idea why there are two teams in his Centre as they are both bottom of the division, probably could have made one decent team. We plan on leaving our team after this year even with the move to the NAPHL. We love our local ORHL team just don't want to deal with the crazy that is running the league.

U13 Erin Shamrocks, he is one of the coaches. From the stories we have heard and of course they could be just that, stories, we are glad we are not in his age group having to play against his team. We have heard multiple teams in that age group complain when they play against his team as it is usually an unfair game.Guest wrote: ↑Tue Mar 25, 2025 2:22 pmWhat team does the league owner run?Guest wrote: ↑Tue Mar 25, 2025 1:53 pm Seriously just go somewhere, anywhere other than the ORHL. Re: ORHL Thoughts?
My recommendation is to stay FAR away from the ORHL! Everything I've read here about the "Owner" is 100% true! We have been at tournaments and seen all of the same things and talked about all of the same issues with parent groups we have come to know. We have seen parents in complete frustration with the situation in his kids age group. We watched a game in London where the owner was coaching for the Erin team and wearing all of his ORHL gear. It seemed like a bullying tactic to the refs to remind them who pays for their weekend away. This is our 3rd and final year with the league as our organization is shifting to the naphl so our boy said he is fine going back to A or BB local center.
Re: ORHL Thoughts?
From what I understand he made his own team because of his daughter. That’s why he tried to start up a girls league that will never happen. So now he took out hitting across the ORHL so she wouldn’t get rocked next year when she has to move up a division. Or maybe he will just allow her to play down an age group again like he has in the past. Seems super shadyGuest wrote: ↑Tue Mar 25, 2025 1:53 pm Seriously just go somewhere, anywhere other than the ORHL.
