If you're a hockey parent and money isn't an issue...

Do you put your kid on U9 MD or Klevr Tier 2?

Presuming they likely would not make Tier 1.

Pondering our options for next season.

I wont deny the talent in T1 Klvr is great. after that it is a joke. But it is tough to track games and standings and all the teams look and sound the same. playing same teams every weekend is not a positive. its a great league but then ur coming to the G regardless for u10 aaa.

U9 MD teams would get destroyed by Tier 3 Klevr

The kids in KSL tier 1 and 2 on avg are much stronger than MD kids. MD kids have mostly played half ice and will take some time to adjust.

They aren't on the ice as much (on average)
They aren't going up against as good of competition (on average)
They aren't getting a taste for the way hockey is actually played until Jan (on average)
a lot of the naturally "more gifted" kids left and went to KSL leaving most teams with less talent (on average)

So, is it possible for their to still be solid kid in MD? Sure. Especially if the parents are taking their kid to extra training, and joining one day full ice tournaments through the spring and summer and in through out the fall/winter season.

I would never say a kid in MD has no chance at AAA because I know there are a couple kids out there that still stand a chance. Especially "raw" kids with elite level natural skills (fast, big, etc)

but "On average" most AAA teams are going to be 90+% KSL kids. It was in most places last year, and the teams that have KSL kids are the best teams. The ones that brought up their best MD kids are bottom of the pack.

Open borders has basically killed the chances of MOST MD kids from making AAA.

Sure, and guess what?

Kids who play AAA at U10 have a statistically better chance at staying on a AAA team (On average)
Kids who don't play AAA at U10 have a very poor statistical chance at making a AAA team (On Average)

the kids who are the hardest workers and play the best hockey right now are the ones that will likely continue to put that work in... (on average)
The kids who aren't very good right now, or aren't at that AAA level right now, probably will continue to put that average effort in.... (on average)

I don't know why soo many parents think THEIR kid will be the kid to grow bigger than everyone else, or will have a game that better translates to hitting, or will magically have the passion at U14 when everyone else doesn't have it any more. Its not likely to happen, and quite frankly its not a big deal. I don't even want my kid to play AAA hockey. After my oldest went through it right through until U16, I am just no interested in doing it again. But I can tell you this, we got to know most of the kids in our loop and from one year to the next, players shifted a little bit from team to team but very few kids showed up and made the AAA team that had never been on a AAA team before.

We had one kid in U11 and one kid in U14 - neither of which made it through a 2nd season.

Good luck out there parents.

"On average" kids who start AAA at U10 have a higher burn out rate!

Higher burn out rate then whom? Kids who don't play AAA? or Kids who don't start AAA until a later year?

I think that goes without saying, but that doesn't change anything. You can't burn out from AAA if you don't ever make it there.
