Guest wrote: Sat Mar 09, 2024 8:11 pm Looks like a goon hit and suspension deserved. Under 3 seconds left in the game, 2 goal lead, the defensive player freezes the puck and just stands there to let time expire. No hockey value in the hit and it's Jim not a legal hit.
I obviously can't get into the mind of an 11 yr old kid but that hit has to be called every time - it's on the attacking player to control themselves. And it's on the refs to call it so there isn't a brawl.
So what was the call...

HFB Major?
HFB Minor?
Boarding Minor?
Body Checking Minor?
Good question. Was escorted off ice and by commentary here has a suspension. I’d guess a game misconduct for something to the effect of boarding with a 3 game penalty that comes with it?
I’m not a parent of either team but looked at LiveBarn out of curiosity. Kid was against the boards with the puck and the other other came in and didn’t really stop. Only looks worse than it was because the boy against the boards fell down. He got right back up. The kid wasn’t going particularly fast at him, seems more like she didn’t know how to stop.
Sounds like boarding minor, no game. A rookie ref might call HFB minor, which would be automatic 1 game, regardless of how minor the contact.

To the parents who think it was anything more than an incidental bump...you might want to re-calibrate your expectations. The likelihood of an 11 year old taking a healthy run at another kid, to drive him face first into the boards is nil. The lesson here is to teach kids to be prepared for some form of incidental contact along the boards (legal or not) and how to protect themselves in these situations.
The hit from behind minor that was called will result in 1 game suspension. The Knight player was actually in the proper body position against the boards flat, clearly not expecting someone to hit him from behind when there is less than 5 seconds left on the clock and the opposing team is down by two goals. One game is sufficient I guess unless the player has a past reputation of illegal hits such as this one. Remember these kids are in A and won’t be body checking.
What makes you so certain he won't want to move up to AA some day?

They are a complete embarrassment to minor hockey, screaming and swearing at the referees all game long. Not to mention when an Islanders player was body checked against the board and hitting his head Aeros parents were booing the referee’s. It’s one thing if you don’t agree with previous call but an 11 year old child was laying on the ground hurt and all you can hear is Aeros faithful belligerently screaming. What a disgrace. Thank god we don’t have to see this team again this season.
Perhaps they thought the MI kid was embellishing, to sell it.

Did the MI kid leave the game? Was there a penalty on the play? 2 minutes for pushing?
He actually didn’t return, and you’re a gross human being to call this out considering what happened. Glad you guys lost, loser.

Oh relax...calling what out? I didn't see the game. So was there penalty or not?

Hockey isn't for the faint of heart.

Nobody likes to see any player get hurt, regardless of age or level, but especially a young kid who is out there to have fun. But if there was no penalty on the play, then from the refs point of view it was a hockey play with an unfortunate outcome, and that happens from time to time.

Refs called the penalty, however for whatever reason the Aeros parents didn’t think it was the right call. Blatant check, kid lying on ice hurt = Aeros parents up in arms booing and screaming

Hey gang…throwing it out there that usually the more toxic parent group is the one that posts more on this site. And so far that’s not Aeros parents.

Booing and screaming parents in kids sports aren’t an anomaly, so try to stay focused on the topic.

Kid gets hurt (hopefully not serious) and leaves the game. You claim it was a blatant check…so what was the penalty?

I have to agree with this comment and although I do realize that all parents get caught up in the games and want their kids teams to win. Aeros parents are down right nasty. Very sore losers and constantly crying and screaming at the refs. I’ve witnessed them fighting in the stands with opposing teams parents, threats to meet them in the parking lot and wait outside the referee’s door to cry about a call.
