Most coaches you are referring to were born in the 80's, some were born in the 90's and they've all completed the same D1 and HP training developed by HC. The training models are current and they are subject to the scrutiny of the org, the parent group of the team and the entire minor hockey community... in other words, they are not stuck in the 80's... the problem is you.

When your kid fails to meet the expectations of a HC and that coach holds him accountable, you accuse the coach of being stuck int he 80's.

When a paid instructor (who is often not a coach) takes your money and tells you how great your kid is, you think he's the greatest thing since sliced bread. FYI - believing that your private instructor is teaching your kid how to "think the game" without being at the game to see him play is hilarious.

This can't be a real post? Can it? HC, as well meaning as they are, have ZERO buy in to ANY of their coaching clinics, certifications or coaching plans. ZERO

There's literally no long term plan in any association, and EVERY coach, specifically at the higher competitive levels, will LAUGH at HC coach courses and roll their eyes at having to take the course. They ONLY do so because it's mandatory. There is literally no cooperation from coaches at different age groups or levels of play. You get what you get for a coach, and HOPE he's good. The next year your coach will be different, have different priorities, different strategies, different language in explaining things and there's ZERO consistent message to the kids. A coach at one level, doesn't give two shits what the coach at another level is doing. A coach of one age group couldn't care less about what the other age groups are doing. You wouldn't teach people anything, anywhere in this manner! Coaching should be curriculum based, and the coaches can participate in the building of the curriculum, but after that the plan must be followed in order for it to work.

NO ONE ever said a skills or skating coach taught the thinking aspects of the game. Comprehension is lost on you. I even conceded and said at U15 and up, this becomes at least somewhat of a mission for a HC. Even then I would probably trust the skills coach more.

Ask yourself what players do in the offseason to improve their game. What do they spend most of their time on? It's usually technical skating and skills. Working their shot. Working position specific situations. Getting in the gym. What are they NOT doing? They aren't going to class sessions to learn a better PK or PP, or how to play withing a system.

So who's more valuable to your kid reaching his potential?

Naive posts like yours are so brutal I just have to laugh.
^^^hook line and sinker, hahaha.
You're butt hurt by the truth

Don't care
what's brutal fella is @sshole coaches period, don't matter where, how old, experience. If you're a d*ck you're a d*ck. No one bitches for being held accountable, the snowflakes are the jocks who scored 20 goals in Jr D and think they're a hockey guru. When you call them out for being a drunk d*ck loser coach who are not putting in anything positive or valuable it's the kids fault? or the parents fault? lol Ok pal, give re-living your days of being a half wit back in the day and go back to your barstool. That is one seat you know how to fill!
Your kid is in a terrible situation - his coach is a dick who knows little about hockey and his father is an asshole who knows nothing about hockey and even less about raising kids.
why are heros like this d-bag always preaching from their pedestal??

There are brutal parents, but the coaches, especially at the top levels, terrible. I mean, bad coaches, and bad people.

Exactly - there are brutal parents and terrible coaches...the parent who paints all coaches with a negative brush is a classic example of a "brutal parent".

Brutal parents find fault in every coach their kid has had and come to the conclusion that the majority of coaches out there are terrible. They make accusations of incompetence and nepotism. The only people who make these brutal parents happy are paid skills instructors, who tell them how great their kid is.

His tactics are to try and belittle you and find a nerve, most narcissist have that excessive admiration of themselves, so it's fitting that he acts this way. He's probably the drunk on the barstool with a completely warped view of how the world works and how it self revolves around them. I feel sorry for idiots like this, have to come to this forum to trash talk about good coaches and bad parents. Sadly if you had a real perception of the world there's good and bad in everything.

your pontificating is embarrassing. There are some good coaches for sure. You're the d-bag saying ALL parents are the problem. Pot meet kettle champ. You're the typical guy who throws shade, but heaven forbid it gets sent back at you-you're weak. Just like the coach working in a closed center system, you can't stand on your own two feet and earn your way. pathetic

I never said all parents are the problem, most coaches are the problems, and dbag? LOL ok. I've been on both sides of the coin champ. Learn how to skate and come talk to me. Don't disagree that weak coaches in a closed centre are 100% protected, usually by their self appointed other drunk buddies on the board. I did remark there is good and bad parents and coaches every where. Coaching kids should be easy, coaching parents is a nightmare. Some parents view 1 kid on the ice and have tunnel vision, they don't realize there's a team game with a game plan built on the skills and strategies of the players. It's hard to coach when mom and dad are paying johnny for goals and johnny isn't a goal scorer. But damn you if you don't double shift little johnny! It's a no win champ, let me know if you need a skating instructor?

Can't hide the coach in you I see. Quick to blame parents. Yup they can be a huge problem, no denying it. Most centres are closed, and therefore coaches lack accountability. This is worse.

Tey earning your way champ, and have people feely chose what you offer. Why are you so scared of the merit approach? If you're any good, which i can see you're naive and therefore not good, parents would want to be part of your team. Let the problem ones go on their own, and attract the good ones. That seems to hard for a bemder like you.

You're welcome.
