During the 'regular' season there isn't a display of points like this...I dont get why it's done for tournaments as young as the mite level. It's actually alarming that this type of info about children isn't kept private.
To be fair, spring and summer teams are the wild wild west. So much sandbagging, and moving of players from one roster to another for "important" games happens.

I wish there was more controls put in place. I think its insane what some teams will do to win.
Agreed. You can't put a "normal" team together any more and expect to not get blown out 15-0. So everyone either stacks their team, or they just assume they are getting obliterated.

I think Canlan and other organizers need to do a better job of having less tournaments or segregating them from each other. I was on a team that should have been AAA/Elite and we joined assuming the division we would be put in. But, when we got the schedule only 4 teams joined the tournament. So we either: Don't play, or play against teams not as good. Turns out 1 team was decent competition, the other two could have been House league teams. It was dumb.

The organizers don't need to publish the names, but they should have more controls to ensure that certain players are "at the level" that you've signed up for. Even adding one "Elite" player to a team full of AA or A players will make a gigantic difference. That kid will skate around everyone and score 10 times in a game.

It is what it is, but its not fun being on the losing side, and its embarrassing being on the side that dominates the other teams.
My son was asked to play in a tournament, put up 37 points in 6 games at a AA level. However, pretty much every team in the tournament had AAA players and we only blew out 1 team. Good for confidence but he had more fun in higher level tournaments.
Problem is there are so many tournaments that AA doesn't mean anything. In on tournament it could be all elite kids because only 4 teams joined. Or it could be 4 house league teams because only 4 people joined.

It will never happen, but half the amount of tournaments... and make the weekend AA/A only and the next weekend AAA/ Elite..

Maybe that guys full of shit, but, that's not an uncommon issue.

I had a team in a 3 on 3 NTR tournament. We got dusted the first time because the other teams were clearly NOT A/AA players. We added an "Elite" player for the next tournament and (mind you 3on3 is not 5on5) but he probably scored 90% of our goals. Probably 30 - 40 of them total in the 5 games. We still lost in the finals to one of NTRs teams, but it was the only way to compete.

Guest wrote: Mon Jul 29, 2024 9:22 am We have heard of fathers going to tournament offices to get their sons points corrected. It's ridiculous, In Spring/Summer tournaments you are lucky if they spell your name right, let alone get the stats right.
I know a lot of tournaments they don't track points after there is a +5 Goal differential - which if you are going to track the points to begin with, you are really screwing a bunch of kids over.

I say, if you are going to do it, do it right. If you can't do it, then don't do it at all.

Not going to lie, when I join a tournament with my team, the first thing I do is go into the roster page and see what my opponents best players are.
and that is the problem. We had a kid who got the most 'points' in a tournament once and everyone was like, ooh who is this? Turns out he isn't anything great and just racked up a bunch of points against some easy teams.

Has hockey become basketball? it used to be about goals and assists...now it's just points.
Goals + Assists ARE points. You just lost all credibility.

It's very easy now to go to a tournament page and look up 9 year old Bobby's stats or lack there of...does anyone find this weird? I mean it doesn't work that way with grades that's for sure. I remember people on my kids team being mad that someone got their number of goals wrong...as if so many people are looking up youth hockeys stats? Even here i see people say things like, oh so and so's kid got no points.

I honestly think youth hockey is being ruined by technology. It was better before the internet came along.
It’s been like that since the dawn of hockey. If a kid blows another kid away in points then 99.99% chance they’re a superior player. If a fwd has more points than another fwd over the course of a whole season of 30+ games then they are definitely a superior player. 3 kids in hockey has taught me to worry about what your kid can do and not what others can do.

Buddy may not believe me but frankly, I wasn’t looking for validation on an anonymous site so I couldn’t care less. The story you described above is why they wanted to add my son. They had made it through to Sunday but never gotten over the hump. If you can’t beat them, join them I guess…

yeah, that's what we did, the only thing that is unfortunate is there is no one out there holding tournaments for kids at that lower level that put rigor around stopping elite kids from joining. So they simply don't get to participate or they have to get demolished, or they have to add ringers to their team and not really participate anyways.
