Our AA OMHA organization has told us we can take as many kids as we want from outside our area as we want. No limit.

Heard Aurora, South Simcoe and Stouffville are taking this approach.

OMHA is not going to set limits, but the YSMHL is trying to keep the peace in their loops. It will all fall apart when a team like Barrie or Newmarket hires an unpopular coach and there is a mass exodus at 1 age level (as an example, I don't know that they would or have). Free market is free market. I would expect most loops to fold from 12 AA teams, to 7 or 8 as they won't be competitive.

Then where are all these kids going to play hockey?
If players start going to super teams at AA, where are all the players that were displaced go? The "perceived" weaker AA teams?!
There is still the same number of players registered to play minor hockey in the province, therefore all the teams will stay in existence and won't fold.

They will go to A, and push weaker kids down to BB and select. It’s a perfect free market at to address competition and make every level more fun with parity.


I don’t think they will be “super” teams, but it will more accurately allocate talent to the appropriate levels.

i think we are seriously over estimating the number of families that will drive an additional 30-60 minutes to have their kid play at another AA center versus staying at their "closest" AA center.
I'm 100% agreeing on the parody, but coaches have to do a better job at getting the top end A guys to make their teams.

Shrink the amount of rep teams to kids who can play at a higher level and get the grassroots programs of playing for fun reenergized. Nothing worse than seeing a kid who is on a team to use their roster spot as filler to assist with a teams budget.

My initial thoughts over a year ago after hearing about the open borders rumours and the amount of amalgamations happening was mainly the OMHA pushing for A/AA/AA only. I think this will eventually happen over time especially seeing what the WOAA recently announced with the 6 single A centres. I think most would agree that BB rep is not really rep hockey and most of those kids should be playing LL/Select. My belief is that the OMHA wants to eventually do away with rep hockey below single A.

Any org that will set limits will be setup for failure. Most wont set limits to keep it flexible in building strong teams with more options.

AAA is open, but I can't see a lot of parents driving over an hour for practices and games. It is not worth it.

Which makes the previous posters comments more true...cant see to many people moving to another city for AA hockey.

At AAA London will get a lot of kids from Brantford and Elgin where they have strong coaching.

No, they are driving to the g for better coaches, better competition and better kids to play with
