Projected 1st or 2nd round. And to the clown that said you don’t need an agent you are dead wrong. My kids agent got another player the full school package plus an extra $85k is reimbursed costs for parent travel, hotels, meals etc. You think you can do that by yourself? Doubtful. He’s working on a USHL/College commit so he’s putting in the hours. Facilitated many zoom calls with GMs.

Must be an agent writing this. The $85k, if true, is because the team didn’t want the kid to go the NCAA route.

That’s rare. You need to be standout and if you are the teams will throw things at you. An agent isn’t going to get $85k for your kid sitting in the bubble.

I’m all for showing a little love to our agent who has given us great advice. I don’t need to be told. But this is clearly an agent asking this question as a reminder to all the cheap a$$es out there that a little love would be appreciated.

I’m not an agent, just a dad new to all this stuff. Like I said, my conscience leads me in the direction of at least sending him a token LCBO gift card as a sign of our family’s appreciation. Hopefully one day he will be earning a commission on my sons Pro Salary!

Should have expected these types of replies. I’m NOT paying for an agent or advisor. I was only asking if other parents have ever sent a token gift to their agent as a sign of their appreciation. It will probably be a thank you card with a gift card to liquor store or beer store etc for $100 or so. I’m doing it anyway but curios if any other people have done something like that “before the sign a contract!”

You aren't doing with an agent. If the person you are dealing with needs your charity, yet advertises themselves as an agent, they are clearly not good st their job, run.

Your "story" is weak.

Agents are like real estate agents. They get paid very well when the deliver. That's their business model. I never heard of a property owner offering a pre-performance bonus/tip to a realtor. Irony. We provide the asset in both cases.

The others who want fees are called advisors. They are paid up front. That's their business model.

Unfortunately this forum is the last place you’re going to get an honest answer.
My son has an agent and has had one for a couple years now. As far as I know they’re not allowed to receive gifts. It could be just the agency he works for or it’s a rule, I am not sure. They are basically hedging their bets on the kids one day signing a pro contract.

It’s a great idea. And I’m going to do the same. My son was drafted and I would like to think that our Agent selected helped with that happening. He has always been available for conversation and advice. Some advice I took, and some advice I didn’t.
He organizes a summer team for his kids to keep in shape and is not trying to make a dime at this point.
It’s a token of appreciation.

So you're tipping someone who makes less than minimum wage. Well you get what you pay for.
