Yes. Having done this with two boys, jr b or a is the way to go once 16 if you think your kid can handle playing against 20 yr olds. All midget orgs are in it for the money!

These people have no idea what they are talking about. Only go Junior if your kid is going to play. Junior teams are more in it for the money than U18 programs. It doesn't help anyone to be sitting on the bench all game. Rule of thumb - have your son/daughter play the highest level possible as long as they play.

100% lol other answers are trolling. Only so many Jr spots to go around for 16 year olds. U18 is good hockey, enjoy the extra few years.

If you don’t get drafted in the top 4 rounds go and play U18AAA. You’ll thank me.

Factors to consider based on my experiences as both parent and a U18 coach

Coaching - there are some good and not so good ones out there...choose wisely
Ice Time - consistent play in all situations in U18 or buried on the 5th line in Jr
Team Affiliation- if the Jr team is affiliated with an OHL team they will send kids down to play A LOT...which pushes everyone down the ladder
# of Practices Per Week- 2 or 3
Distance To Travel to Games and Practices- Is it worth driving 1 hr one way to practice on a good team or 10 mins on an ok team?
Grades at School- What's Jr's plans if things "don't work out bc of politics"

and the most important

Off Ice Interests- Does Jr play any school sports? ...if you are going U18 ASK if the coach is ok with this BEFORE signing...my kid really enjoyed high school hockey and football. As most old people know you are only young once so let Jr do what he wants to do.

Jr B will always be there and most kids who play AAA will get a spot if they want one. It allows the kids and more so the parents to say "well he is playing Jr B in (insert town)"....and by the way, in my area, the high end Jr C teams can compete against a lot of the Jr B teams. Hell last yr Alliston had a NHL draft pick playing for them.

Good luck to everyone where ever they land...enjoy the last few years
