Quebec U18 is watered down. Top kids are long gone. Because there is no grade 12 and the CEGEP hockey system is so-so, strong Quebec players go to do Grade 12 in Ontario or the US (or BCS/Stanstead) if they can afford it. A player physical profile for an 18 year old is often like 6 feet weighing 165. They don't have the muscle or core strength yet to compete with a 19 year -20 year old weighing 190. The junior game gets a bit more grittier and the skill guys have less space because everyone skates well in Junior A.Guest wrote: ↑Tue Sep 26, 2023 11:13 amIMO this is a simple fix, follow Quebec and force 17-year-olds to play U18 unless they can pass Hockey Canada exceptional status to play Junior A (Major or tier II)Guest wrote: ↑Tue Sep 26, 2023 10:42 amTotally agree with this especially the first year U18 players (07’s this year). The rush to junior is getting out of hand. Lots of good competition at U18 and time to develop and grow. Very few 07’s will make an impact in junior this year.Guest wrote: ↑Tue Sep 26, 2023 10:10 amToo many kids are getting horrible advice. Pushed into Junior when they are not ready. Playing against 20-21 year olds who are physically developed is not smart.Guest wrote: ↑Tue Sep 26, 2023 8:08 amMajority of players in U18 are missing something that would allow them to player junior hockey. Is that because the 16-year-olds are not there to bring up the quality of hockey?Guest wrote: ↑Tue Sep 26, 2023 3:59 pmHEO U18AAA is awful

Re: Ottawa U18 2022/23 Season
I have to assume you mean the 15 year olds right!?!? I hope so. It's also because HEO has so poorly managed minor hockey and sacrificed the U18AAA division for U16AAA, that the quality 16 and 17 years olds want nothing to do with them. The good ones have made other choices.

But the issue is while there are other options and kids are taking them, it doesn't mean those are great options either for them.If a kid can get and afford a good school program until they graduated, that is probably the wisest choice.Guest wrote: ↑Tue Sep 26, 2023 10:12 pmAgreedGuest wrote: ↑Tue Sep 26, 2023 7:25 pmI have to assume you mean the 15 year olds right!?!? HEO U18AAA is the worst option that's for sure
