The kids who had tons of ice but played AA take those spots because they actually had a chance to play meaningful minutes.

This is true, but if the kid has developed and is now superior to current AAA kids, coaches won't care that the kid played AA. You can't base your decisions on that anyway. This is what a lot of parents think, but they're all wrong.
